64bit versions of Vista is all that is needed. SP1 is not needed to support RAM over 4GB.

this is the limitation of 32-bit system. you need to go 64-bit, if you wish for Windows to support RAM higher than 4 GB.

The bits here pertain to the size of memory address, data/info size, transfer buses. Meaning a 64bit can hold twice the size than a 32bit.

The obvious benefit is speed.. other than the 32 bit's 4GB ram limit.

The word twice is misleading. 64bit for example can utilize much more than 8GB of memory.

With 64 Bit, you can address 10 million times more than with 32-bit.

    But not with Windows.

This are the Windows Vistae 64-Bit limitation:

    Home Basic = 8GB
    Home Premium = 16GB
Ultimate, Business and Enterprise = 128+GB
