Pearl Stock Snare

Bros, im new to tuning this snare,

I have a stock pearl forum series snare, I took out the old batter head and got an Remo Emperor X head... replaced it and leave the stock resonant at the bottom.

the problem is that whenever I hit the snare naay "hadjong" nga mahabilin, though the batter has been screwed tightly, there is still that reverb sound, which is kinda annoying. ang hadjong kay dili pud ingon klaro kaayo, but its us being nearest sa set, and while you play if you hear this kinds of sounds, it could distract us.

We have a piccolo which i've been using for quite a long time, it has a remo head too. but hitting it would give a clear sound. Hit and get what you want...

I love to set that snare sound like of snares used by hillsong drummers.

I noticed if i push on the side part of the batter and hitting it, would give me a very clear sound, just like of hillsong snares. Wlay hadjong, the tightness of it now is very tight already... Loosening it would give more extra annoying reverb sound.

Drums will always resonate bai and there will always be overtones bisag unsaon nimo. Remember - drum sounds from recorded tracks are gated and processed so ayaw i-compare ang imong live sound diha sa madunggan nimo sa imong CD. Also - piccolo snares have less shell surface which translates to less resonation... so gamay ra gyud ang overtone.

The overtones from your snare drum shouldn't be that much. First off, you're using a Mahogany-Poplar drum shell which doesn't resonate much... and the Remo Emperors are double-ply. Try tuning the resonant side medium to medium low... then tune your batter side to medium. That would keep the overtones to a minimum but would produce a wet and fat sound.. dunno if you want that.

If you want to get rid of your overtones completely (which I don't really recommend since you're killing the drum's natural sound), you can make O-RINGS out of your old drumhead and mount it on top of your snare drum.

yes sir, i was really really thinking of putting these rings... I came here basin pa diay naay laing ideya.. yap, i really appreciate the explanation... I first started drumming with this piccolo around so im used to 'sounds' that does not resonate... im planning to set up two snares for the set..

yes the overtones are really not that much, but still annoys whenever i hit 'hinay', its there. in contrast by hitting it hard, dili kaayo obvious to my ears.

ya the o-rings would really kill those natural sounds, but, my toms has these rings, and it really helps on modulating the sound output of my toms. my toms are not Mic'ed, since the place is closed so don't have to amplify. Haven't really had 'much' time experimenting on tuning snares...

anyway, we're planning to build up our stock sound systems, and maybe could work on it..

same for the batter side...

this time, the batter is very tight, and the resonant is medyo hugot na pod.

Pa lu-ag bai to get a lower tone. Pero mao lang lagi, you sacrifice crack/pop and attack when you go for a lower tone. Your best bet is to use o-rings.

the snare when put an O-ring, turns to be a bit muted... whew... sounds no good.. I think the wood is bad?

O Rings kills resonance so yes, it will sound dead and muted (I thought that's what you wanted). Your snare is made out of Poplar I think - which is not the best wood out there by far - and to top it off, you're using a double ply head. Your drum is already dead-sounding to start with (that's why I was wondering why you're complaining of overtones) - pun-an pa gyud ug o-ring, mura na kag ga hapak ug plywood ana.

If I was using that snare drum, I would just mount a Remo Ambassador (coated) on it .. tune it medium-high on both side and make that wood sing (`cause again, that wood doesn't resonate much).

hmm ya, but i dont know where i could get remo ambassadors,,, anyway my piccolo uses remo ambassador (coated)..

local stores doesnt have much of snare heads.
