PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Saturday ordered Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita to draft an order declaring August 29, Monday, a public holiday in observance of National Heroes' Day.

The President gave the order two days after Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye declared that Monday would be a regular working day because Heroes' Day was normally observed on the last Sunday of August every year under the law.

Ermita told the reporters that the President called him about the change in holiday plans only at 6 p.m.

Employers ask Palace to list holidays to avoid confusion

EMPLOYERS are asking Malacañang for a predetermined set of holidays for the entire year to avoid disrupting production schedules and confusing them and their employees.

it's good for the part of the employers and the employees. So that they can plan for their respective schedules.

some of the students woke up eary, took a bath, had breakfast and went offf to school only to find out that theY do not have class because of late declaration of holidaY.. NAG KAHINAY NAMAN TA ANI OI...

ponder on this: is a non-working holiday really a chance for people to commemorate and celebrate a significant day in our history/significant even worth celebrating or is it just another one of those political maneuvers to favor the administration?

apparently, the problem is, most likely people (not employers though) look at declarations like this as a treat (obviously it entails break from work and school)
