C'mon folks. Vista ain't that bad. What's bad are people that's trying to install it on their Celeron based + 512MB RAM computer, and then didn't even bother to check also if their dotmatrix printer has drivers for it nor check if their 16-bit accounting software is compatible..... and then complain why Vista runs so slow on their machine and wasn't compatible with their legacy hardware/software.
Perfect. This is perfectly that annoying reason why Vista sucks so badly. It requires you to change your hardware and software by extracting a timed effort, spend a few extra bucks for a new mobo, add a little amount of cash for the latest proc, and budget a few more counts of paper money for what seems to be a rented OS (since you don't get to modify it even after paying some hard earned finances). And what do you get? A slow OS with some desktop effect. It is pointless!
There is still a large group of user using lower end desktops / laptops that runs Windows XP. These machines are completely functional. Most of these are functional and in good condition. We know that Vista sucks because it consume vast amount of PC resources, require unreasonably high hardware configuration to do some "desktop effect".
And what are these "desktop effect" all about? Multiple workspace are highly productive. Flip3D is productive too since it allow preview before switching windows. All the windows appearance / disappearance looks good. I tried all these on Vista once. They are slow there.
Desktop effect are not evil, but it doesn't worth all the trouble and cost to make it.
The problem is not the effect themselves. It is the cost! While Ubuntu runs stunning and productive desktop effect seamlessly and easily, Windows Vista sucks on the same hardware configuration! While a plain Vista could get slow without any real production, Ubuntu could run both OS and application quickly. In short, Vista requires more expensive hardware than linux to run the same desktop effect. Ubuntu wins. What's more do we want?
Also, some older laptop does not have any 3D accerated video card. It is impossible for average users to get Vista or desktop effects run on it. But laptop cost a lot more than desktop machines. It would be a great waste for one to discard it for new Vista supporting machine.
But what if they can:
(1) get the stunning and productive desktop effect;
(2) run a great OS; and
(3) use the SAME HARDWARE that runs their Windows XP?
I think most people would give ubuntu a try.
Jeebuz. Who's forcing you to upgrade? If you have a perfectly running XP machine and is happy with it, then stick to it. The world's not gonna end. You rant bout how Vista sucks so bad because it's hardware requirements is up from the old one? Well Hello? Have you been living under a rock? Every OS that MS has come out has always needed more than their previous outing. If it didn't then we'll prolly still be running DOS.
If you don't like the trend then stop whining and use something else. Go play with your Ubuntu if that tickles your fancy.
haha.. I agree with you... yep...
