MrBiddle,
CCD chip is a thing of the past; I first encountered it in 1972 via the trendsetting Sony VCR 1610.
Now, the state-of-the-art system is called CMOS Technology for Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor. True to its leadership status, Sony developed this proprietary system and introduced it in its Sony DCR-PC1000, still on miniDV standard.
But if you really want to strut around, get the JVC's breakthrough HDV camcorder, the 6.9 pound and shoulder-sitting JVC GY-HD100U, at something like $6,295 MSRP.
