Why Cebuanos dislike Manileños?

wa man gani ko nanghambog nga i spent half of my life in manila, then in cebu, then naabot ko diri U.S. IMO, i don't think Manilenyos are better or Cebuanos are better.

kataw-an lang mos mga taga Manila. dapat magkahi-usa ta ninyo tanan. don't hate each other oi. ug ayaw mo sigeg panaway. magtan-aw sa ta sa atong kaugalingon before ta manaway ok?

ako pud opinion bro' kay, they look there self more dominant "Because":
- kung mo adto ta sa Manila kita ang mag tagalog din if sila pud mo are sa Cebu kita pud ang mag
tagalog or mo adapt sa ilang language. (that's make Cebuanos a hospitable 1 and a friendly
person).
- din daghan pud mga igsoon natong mga kabos nah Cebuano or Cebuana nah nanimpad sa Manila
para lang mangita sa ilang kapalaran. Ang uban nag pa boy2x or nag pa-maid lang bisan gamay
ang sahod nila.

Pero kaning tanan dili ni natoh himoong rason para kita mag-away or mag himog gap sa tag-sa2x kay kita Pilipino ug ang mga talento sa Pilipino, indemand run sa mga amerkano.

Tagalogs somehow have the impression that they're the only civilized region in the Philippines. I have heard some tagalogs who go to Cebu and be dumb surprised we have large malls and incredible night spots, and of course let me not forget good Universities. They tend to be so engrossed with their progress paid by the rest of the Philippines. They all need to grow up and stop acting like superiors and my golly, educate themselves about other provinces in the Philippines noh! Nagtuo sila sila ray naay mall? Ka ignorante, geesh I even remember myself saying the only tagalogs who doesn't know Cebu is not a jungle are those who can't afford to buy plane tickets.

Chad_tukes, it is reality probably you did not experience it first-hand but it is real.

it personally don't affect me in anyway. the only people who are affected by the Manilenyos superiority are those who are insecure of where they belong. proud man kaha ta nga Cebuano ta? trabaho man kaha mog call center and maayo mo mu iningglis kay mag "english" mo everyday? ako proud ko, that's why it doesn't affect me.

probably you're right, biik. i did not experience being discriminated by Manilenyos since i grew up in Manila and i am used to their culture. pero pag balhin namog Cebu wa man lagi ko nang discriminate ug mga bisaya? i remember one time maglisud paman gani kog bisaya (dili gyud kaayo fluent) since bag-o pako sa Cebu ato nga time.

in fairness pud sa mga taga Manila. ang kanang kusog manaway kana pud ng mga dili edukado ug mga taas ug tan-aw sa ilang kaugalingon. like i said, PINOY tang tanan ug d ta angay manghinaway sa ubang taw. naa tay kanya-kanyang baho.

Interesting topic.

One time, I was sent by the company to train several classes in Manila. Since the medium of instruction is English, I never got to speak in Bisaya, even on breaks, moreso because I don't know anyone from the classes I've handled on a personal level.

One time, my trainees were talking in front of me (during break) about where each of them were from. I eavesdropped (hehehehe) and learned that they were actually from different provinces but most of them were from Manila and Luzon. Unfortunately, no one in the group was from Cebu. They talked about a lot of things until finally I heard this:

"Ai naku, I tell you, andami kayang mga malandi na mga Cebuano."

When I heard that I got totally pissed. They continued on and I never stopped them. When it was time to restart the class, I stood up and one of the asked me, "Miss, are you also from Manila?"

"To which I answered, "Actually I'm not. I'm Bisaya and I'm from Cebu." then i kept quiet, let them chew on that.

Do I dislike Manileños? Nope. I'm sure I've disliked certain persons who are Manileños but not solely because of that. There are Manileños who are crap but I don't take crap from them. BUT I very well understand those who do. It only might be a reaction to what they have experienced with Manileños. It's a reality that Manileños tend to discriminate when they know you're from Cebu or the Visayas and the dislike stemmed from this.

Some really stupid Manileños would ask you, "Meron nabang ilaw sa Cebu?" To which I reply, if you remember your history, the country's oldest street is in Cebu, you better rephrase your question

my grandmother was a UP faculty in Diliman, when she visits us in our province she loves to tell stories and stuffs...

one of those were about her "Bisaya" students....most Manileños make fun of their "gahi/hait accents, pero bumabawi raw sa ACADEMICS...but this was during the early 60's/70's.haha(underdog status)

highschool @ college(FEU) ako sa manila nakita ko kanila tanga at 90% of theme are social climber(mayabang) they look at sa mga bisaya inocente pero sa katagalang mo silang kasama2X sila pala ang mga inocente sos ginoo kuripot na mayaman toinks .. tinood jud na part kamo mga tagalog nag kamang pamo kami nag lupad na swerte lang na sila diha namuyo ang mga datu nga kastila mao nindot ila lugar..

when we talk about MANILENYOS, are we referring to people who are originally from MANILA? coz kung tan-awn natog maayo, most people in MANILA came from different parts/provinces of the Philippines particularly the Luzon area, probably kung bana-banaon siguro mga 60-70% ang mga taga probinsya.

I think kanang kusog mo discriminate kai taga city jud sa manila... kai dili mana sila gusto pa labwan....

well i dont hate them all, but some of them do look down on bisayas.

like last march, i was in a restaurant at the mall of asia. i looked over their menu and decided not to eat there, though i decided to do so "respectfully." as i was walking out, i heard the waiter say to another waiter, "mga bisaya!" and they both chuckled. hmmm

and at greenbelt 5, i was asking for directions from a guard, same thing happened. after i was a few feet away from him i heard him whisper to himself, "bisaya pala"

so what's wrong with being bisaya? maybe because a lot of household helps there come from the visayas? and i'm not saying that i too am looking down on their jobs in general, but, a freekin guard and waiter looking down on me and my girlfriend because were "bisaya" like their maids??[br]Posted on: May 09, 2008, 10:23:38 AM_________________________________________________m aybe i should have gone bisaya on their asses and do a lapulapu to them! heheh
