Dissapointed with DVD burning technology

How many of you guys are satisfied with todays DVD burning technology.

You'd think you would have the a good enough PC to play latest video game, but its no enough to copy a DVD at the fastest speed with the risk of errors.

Im BACKING up some PSP games for a friend, 38 DVDs to be exact.
He gave me me good quality DVD discs worth 15 Pesos each, +R Imation.

I have two optical drives, an ASUS DVD ROM and SONY DVDRW up to 16x.

So I copied the DVDs using Nero- DISC to DISC style at full 16x, but 4 out of 10 discs with errors

So end result, copy DVD to HD then copy file to DVD at 8x speed para sigurado.. Tsk tsk.

Even until now, I burn my audio discs at 8x para sure walay problem.

So unsa may gamit sa 20x? Sigh.. Are the Sata drives doing any better? I yet have to test it.

it could me a media problem. try a different one.

what types of errors are reported? some companies intentionally use copy-protection schemes which may add read errors (which are recoverable btw) to discourage cd/dvd copying.

you can also try different software or different media or different drives...

There's a wide range of reasons why you'd get errors with burning DVDs. Burning it at 8x doesn't necessarily solve the problem.

Here's a list of causes you can look into:

- Have you tried other DVD media?
- Have you updated your DVD-writer's firmware?
- Have you tried an updated version of your burning software (Nero 7 to Nero 8 for example)? Or perhaps different software?
- Are you running unnecessary programs in the background (P2P, etc) while burning the media?

I've burned a whole lot of DVD's and, apart from 4 coasters which was solved by updating the drive's firmware, everything has been fine. My only gripe with today's dvd burning technology, is well, more space

1.) Firmware is updated to the latest version
2.) IM using Titanium series by Imation- Maybe you could recommend better types?
3.) Im copying files which original burned already and not Original DVDs. These are just normal DVD data discs burned.
4.) I will try to update from Nero 7 to 8. >But still I would very disappointed with nero if this solves it.
5.) Yes programs are running in the background but then again should all programs be closed while buring?

My main issue is coying Disc to Disc. Form HD to Disc I am 99% free of errors, the 1% being Media problems.

i think you should close all other programs while burning..

maybe theres a problem with the source disk/drive

close running programs to free up space, to allocate buffers for fast writing speeds.....

I don't wanna hog up while burning just because i'm burning while other programs are running at the back. Could you imagine a computer that seems to freeze while burning. ^_^ delikado au ang burn. the cd-writer NEED continous supply of data to be written. So therefore the system must focus on it to have successful burn at high speeds.

I used to close all programs before I burn, and in my experience just 5% error possibility. daghan nako na burn dvd at high speeds.

if i burn at 16x speeds on a dvd, i only rely on discs that cost at 9pesos from cdr-king. no offense to discs that cost 15p.

sauna, i only buy imation discs, but when i found out that its a class B disc, i resorted to something. the white disc from cdr that costs 9p
is class A, manufactured by mitsubishi. so far, wa ko kasuway ug failed burn @ 16x.

im only using a s939 setup, 2gb, ide drives. nero 8 (8.2.8.0), LG H55L

in addition to your comments guys. i noticed that burning a lot of dvd's and cd's in succession will yield a lot of problems in my experience. so what i did is to burn 2-3 disc at a time and let the laser in my optical drive cool down for about 5-10 minutes before i burn the next set. with this i noticed that i was able to reduce bad burns. actually my previous LG 20x GSA-H20A ide and my current LG 20x GSA-H20L sata has not encountered bad burns from different media i put into it using the above method i mentioned even if there are a few programs running on the background. anyway, maybe it may have just worked for me, i don't know about you, but you can always try it yourself also.

heat problem is considerable if your whole drive wont heat up (chassis), BUT if mo-init jud ang tibuok nimo drive, dapat jud papahuwayong ang drive (maybe leave the tray open for awhile) you cud always consider burning, reading cd, inside propels some air circulation inside.,,

di man sad ta ma problema if the cd spins fast inside, LASER is light and cant be interferred with air.
