Communism tends to rob from the rich and give to poor in order to "equalize" the society.. I find that resentful. Only the invisible hand of free enterprise, brought about by democracy, made it possible for our world to progress so rapidly. Look at North Korea, a true communist country in the modern world, aren't its people pitiful? The leader convinced his people that they are living the best standards of living in the world yet the truth of the matter is, they are barely surviving if not for foreign aid... Communism is obsolete. All who attempted it, failed. Global maturity is already at hand with countries like New Zealand, Switzerland and other Eu countries. People who prefer life to be equal really show who they are at the core... a bunch of free loaders...

Most people who disdain communism never even read any of Marx's works. That's like saying you hate Beethoven but you haven't heard any of his symphonies. And saying that North Korea's leader is a prime example of a communist leader is like saying the Erap is the prime example of a Philippine president. Same with North Korea as your "ideal" portrait of a communist country. Like I said, real communism has not happened--why? Because people have not totally overgrown their material wants/desires/needs. Period. That is the more real immaturity behind the world governments today, which is why greed cannot readily be eradicated.

Global maturity? Is that supposed to make us all feel warm and happy inside? If the world is indeed "mature", then is everyone in this thread going to condemn me if I start posting pictures of children's blown up bodies, guts all over the roadside, in the streets of Iraq or Mogadishu? Yeah right, welcome to the "mature" and "better" world of "globalization."

It seems you are very well verse of Marx's ideas... what do you know about him? Can you enlighten me on his ideas... all i've read about him is that he laid down his principles maybe as a result of a hard life... He was poor daw and hated the ways of the rich.. in short, several authors summarize him as financially illiterate being full with debt... So, it seems you have the highest understanding on his principles amongst anyone here, then can you shed more light on our beloved hero, Karl Marx...

I honestly don't think I've expressed enough ideas to warrant being called an "expert" on Marx. I was merely expressing a point, as regards to people who tend to express certain ideas without trying to "see both sides". And I've seen both sides, albeit in a limited way, and thus I believe I have a fairly good understanding (again, only from my rather limited perspective) of why things go wrong or why they are the way they are, in the the world today.

Back in 1988 I was involved in a very right-wing group, an ROTC cadet experiment in UP Diliman, which later became known as the "UP Special Operations Battalion", composed of cadet Rangers, and cadet Special Forces Group. College students who were trained and indoctrinated with the principles, strategies and tactics of anti-communist and anti-insurgency warfare and LIC (low-intensity conflict). Most of our tactical officers were trained by US Special Forces personnel who were then stationed at Clark Air Base in Pampanga. Our training was so specialized and efficient that the unit got disbanded only two years after it was created--rumour had it that then-exiled Col. Gringo Honasan wanted to tap the "services" of our now-trained cadets, with the purpose of creating small distabililization attempts in Metro Manila by say, planting explosives in trash cans in malls, etc etc.

For personal reasons I had to leave UP Diliman in the summer of 1989. My mind was still fresh with the ideals and principles of the unit I was involved in, back at UP. But searching for an ideology, on what is the truth and what is right, led me to a belief--I cannot and will not be able know the truth until I see both sides of this struggle. So, as a student, I joined the leftist movement. I joined the League of Filipino Students (LFS) and a local chapter of the KM (Kabataang Makabayan). I got indoctrinated and studied the works of Marx, Lenin, and Mao Zedong, collectively referred to as the MLMZT. I've read Jose Maria Sison's "Philippine Society and Revolution" I began to understand and draw a more complete picture of the situation. But as the years went by, as I gradually shaved off the idealism of youth with some of the harsher realities of life, I began to see certain weaknesses in both ideologies. Having a unique perspective like the one I had, gave me the strength to accept things as they are, and see that not everything is perfect, and how volatile situations can be.

The ideas of both capitalism/imperialism and communism have many parallels. There are aspects of each that I respect, but there are also aspects which I abhor. As I grew older, I realized that a balance of beliefs, just pieces of ideas from both ideologies, is necessary to make better sense of what's going on. It sounds selfish, I know. But that's how I see my life now. My perspective may be skewed, but at least my mind is very lucid in the fact that I don't automatically obey or ascribe to anyone's political views unless I've dived deep into the very heart of its principles.

Which is why I prefer to stand alone, for now. And observe.
