I learned those people were obviously having such a grand time at the expense of someone else. Very educational video indeed.

I can't wait to hear the reactions of our fellow Filipino Medical practitioners in all parts of the world when their co-workers would joke around with them with regards to this issue at hospitals and clinics they're currently working at. all because a dozen or so careless, heartless and unprofessional medical practitioners couldn't get their acts straight. imagine what a 3-minute video can do to the careers of our fellow Filipino health workers around the globe. it's not even funny...

how a small drop of liquid in the ocean can cause a very big ripple effect. but I guess those guys at the OR never heard of that. but nevertheless, they have a lot of explaining to do. but no matter what they do from here on out, it won't repair the damage that it already caused. this is gonna get bigger I tell you.

I wonder if those same people picketing the ABC studio would still do the same when Teri Hatcher in a future episode of Desperate Housewives would say: " See, what did I tell you about those medical schools in the Philippines?"
I also belong to the medical profession, and practicing both in and out of the country. You have some very interesting points here. It does affect the entire Filipino medical community in and out of the Philippines. But I also find it unfair that you reference the DH issue here. The medical schools do their job just well. NO medical school produces PERFECT graduates or doctors. Say if Teri Hatcher were to say that, that's just like saying to a lawyer "let me see your diploma so that you're not from some law school in the Philippines", we know even the best law schools here have produced some really questionable lawyers with questionable ethics and professionalism. So it's really unfair to just attack the schools, who have themselves produced great doctors more than bad doctors. I hate to say this but the way I understand your post, I think you're being a bit narrow-minded. And yes, I agree with the other poster here, those same Filipino medical practitioners protesting in front of ABC will do so again if the writers and Teri would do another stunt like that. A few bad doctors from our country doesn't make all filipino doctors bad. And a few bad graduates from a medical school doesn't make that medical school bad. The same goes with any other profession or school out there.

^^ Just because a couple of doctors "couldn't get their acts straight", this doesn't mean that the medical schools to which the medical team belong are inadequate or incompetent. As I have said in a previous post, unfortunately, the doctors involved belong to the medical schools here in Cebu including a top performing school in the country. Even UP-PGH (philippine general hospital, another public hospital) which supposedly houses the creme of the crop physicians/medical practitioners have their fair share of issues, some of which can be considered worse than this (issues that resulted to death, nosocomial infections, etc.). [br]_________________________________________________

IF we talk about reasonable people reading this news, then yes, they won't put the whole medical schools in the Philippines in question. BUT that is not the case and we both know that. people read news and don't have time to research thus they tend to generalize what they read as such. did those people who read about the previous Nursing Exam scandal searched harder about what happened to the passers? that they retook the exams again? NO. all they remembered was that the "Filipino student nurses cheated" on that exam and that is still what's in their head right now, most of them.

and it will be the same as this video. it will forever be etched in their minds that Filipino medical workers humiliated their patient while doing a procedure on him. no matter how those "involved" would give their apologies and ask for forgiveness. what will be remembered is "Filipino doctors were laughing while performing an operation".

And what about medical schools outside the Phil.?, Hell, American doctors sure have some bad bedside manners. But that's another issue. But you do have a point, while I don't believe this incident will actually vindicate Teri Hatcher nor the writers of the show. If she were to say that again, then it would yet be another issue, and the same people would continue picketing at the ABC Studio. I'm betting my life on that. hehehe..

so what about other medical schools? sure American doctors might be the most racist among the bunch and having the worst bedside manners BUT I still have to find a YOUTUBE video that supports that. IF you want a video about Filipino doctors laughing and heckling doing a procedure here it is:

    baby out!!!

see what I mean? show me a video of other doctors that acted worse than this fellas then I'll take your word.

of course a lot of cases have been filed and won by patients towards their attending physicians all over the world but still recording a procedure such as Jan-Jan's in the guise of educational documentation is pure BS what with the laughing and heckling heard in the background.

Yeah, I get what you mean. There's a video alright. That's where the difference is, some idiot thought it was funny so he recorded it and yet another idiot thought it was fun to share it to the whole world so he uploaded it in youtube. But about other fellas acting worse, it's hard to find a video, but you can search the newspapers and you can find it. Most of the horrible things go unreported because many of it happen in government hospitals.

please re read my previous posts so you will know why I empathized with the Filipino medical community in New York lining up outside ABC studios braving freezing temperatures every week for I dunno how many months just to ask for an apology from them. from there you would get a bigger picture where I stand on this issue.

and please don't pass judgement to somebody by just reading one single post. that's what narrow-minded people would normally do.

@omad: I did read your posts and I think you misunderstood my point about the narrow-mindedness of some points, and maybe I may have misunderstood some of your points so I re-read it again. So I apologize. What I meant was that I don't think the whole world would view this in the context of the DH issue. And I seriously don't think ABC nor Teri Hatcher would think they've been vindicated by this incident nor would the other people think they have been. I spoke with some of my colleagues here (foreign nationals) about the issue, and while they were offended, they didn't find something in it that could vindicate what ABC did in DH. My point was in relation to DH. yun lang. [br]Posted on: April 17, 2008, 02:00:13 AM_________________________________________________

And also in response to this statement, if mangyari man ulit ito, we would still protest out there. We wouldn't chicken out because of this horrible incident. So that's why to tell you honestly, i was a bit offended here, and so in a rush thought this post as a little bit narrow-minded because till the end, we would gladly defend the Filipino medical community, even if this will happen again and again. yun lang..

    Jo_vianPH:

BUT the sad part is: the DH issue is just a "TV show" whereas the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center "surgery spectacle" is real.

    AS REAL AS COULD BE.

you have Jan-Jan as the aggrieved patient playing himself while the doctors and nurses of VSMMC were playing their parts flawlessly showcasing their top-notch "professionalism" in the whole 3 minute video. couple that with all the laughter and heckling heard in the background from the rest of those present. "baby out" would be a punchline more damaging than what Teri Hatcher had spoken or will ever say in the future DH episodes pertaining to this issue. no writer could ever be blamed for this brilliant script, everything fell into place. I can still hear "documenting, documenting" while vividly imagining the surgeon spraying the canister towards the rest of the crew after the operation.

right now, if you ask me, the DH issue is just a minuscule, just a speck compared to the whole YouTube video showing the actors in real-life playing their parts.

and there's just no going around that. [br]Posted on: April 17, 2008, 02:49:06 AM_________________________________________________Yeah, I get what you mean. There's a video alright. A WHOLE LOT OF DIFFERENCE.

if a picture says a thousand words, how many billion or maybe trillion words would a video with matching audio have said?
