    Default Re: Problematic portable HD

At first, I was debating between buying a new USB cord or a new enclosure. I have a strong feeling ang problem naa sa port. So will changing the enclosure change the defected port? Isn't the port part of the HDD itself? *feels so dumb*
There is big possibility gud the problem is in the port of enclosure or in the USB cord, you can go in a store and you can ask them to test one of their enclosure and one of their USB cable so you can find out which is "witch" so if either one of them- then buy it
or you can tell that to the store where you bought it- then if sa port sa HDD , then ang guba ang board sa HDD
And why feel so dumb- your questions are "nice and good" to answer (with a sense questions)

What do you mean usa ra ka port akong gigamit? Asa?
naa man gud enlcosure nga duha ang port, or maybe he meant is other port usb in your pc

how do you fix bad sectors? Will the usual error-checking tool sa Windows fix it? I've been doing regular checks and defragmenting ani nga HDD kay hadlok lagi ko maguba. Na problemado ra sad diay gihapon.
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c...or&btnG=Search
But since your caring that much with your HDD, gamay ra ang percentage nga bad sector but posible gihapon

yes buy a new enclosure lang, since mau ra ang guba ani.not the hdd

actually ang error ani naa ra sa usb port sa ur enclosure..most probably nahilis na or collapsed na and minimal na ang contact ilig plug..the port is part of the enclosure.the mobile hdd is actually a laptop harddisk..its a separate part.

to most common enclosure..and usb cable ani kay 1 male plug and 2male plugs sa other end..

the single port is for the usb enclose, the 2 male port are for the computer..both shud be plugged before u use ur enclosure.

fix bad sector by : hiren 9.2 < download lang sa net..google where.

dont defrag if u dont have UPS, slight power fluctuation will render ur HDD useless if it happens while ga defrag ka...

actually its like wear and tear....so recommended ang seagate mobile HDD para sa enclosure coz of its 5years warranty sa store..

proper handling will also help. excessive shaking..bumps.. will kill ur mobile hdd faster than power fluctuation.

    correct ka dyan . . . .

after mahibaloan na unsay problema, nya ma solve na. next time inig gamit sa mobile drive, duha ka usb ports sa computer ang gamita. plug 1st in the computer (2 usb ports) then plug the mobile drive sa other end sa usb cable (mao ni ang last).

Oh wow! Wa jud ko masayop sa pag post diri dah. Salamat kaayo sa mga inputs and for the links concerning bad sectors on HD. Very, very useful.

Akong dakung confusion about the two male plugs for the PC natubag ra jud. Kinahanglan jud diay duha i-plug? Hehe! Clueless jud ko kung unsay gamit aning usa ka male plug. I thought back up. *sheepish grin* Sa pikas end, it's a mini plug. Now that I plugged both male plugs into the PC, 7 in 10 na lang ang chances nga mag read/write error siya. Before it's like 4 in 10. However, kung matandogan, ma-disconnect gihapon.

I'm almost done backing up my files from my mobile HDD then I'm sending it back to the store for troubleshooting or replacement.

I thought mobile/portable HDDs are supposed to be sturdier than the ones on your PCs. Dili diay? By its "mobile" nature, isn't it supposed to withstand as much excessive wear and tear or shaking as it possibly could? It's logical, di ba? Mobile devices ought to be more robust, mas lig-on, mas astig. My mobile HDD has been rather "mobile" these past few weeks. Perhaps, it could have added to the problem. Sigh.

I really appreciate all your the inputs like always. You, guys, are DA BEST!
