Unfortunately, the doctors involved belong to the 4 medical schools here in Cebu. (and one of the medical schools here is one of the only 3 centers of excellence in medicine here in the Philippines) It seems even the best medical schools in our country have their fair share of bad graduates and products. But still, the medical school itself isn't questionable (me being a product of one of the medical schools here in Cebu), since the other graduates and doctors are exceptionally good. The VSMMC residents are really notorious for being unruly and rude, uncouth even, but you rarely find these types of resident physicians in private hospitals.

I'm really hoping their licenses are revoked, and they get sued. Haven't they learned something from the countless bioethics classes in their medical school or the medical conventions they attended which promote medical ethics and professionalism?

And the resident surgeon in duty at that time is Dr. Philips Leo Arias (not Dr. Ariel Arias as reported by Sunstar). I wonder if he will be accepted at the Philippine College of Surgeons after his training. He and the other residents should be deferred from joining the prestigious fellowship.

That I do not know, the results of the investigation will be out this friday, so we will know who's who and who did what by then. But it was HIS surgery. He was in charge of that surgery. And he was in that OR, along with other doctors and staff who shouldn't be there.

From what I heard, naa pod ang PGI didto. Since VSMMC is a teaching hospital, they usually let PGIs and interns do some of the work while the resident guides them. So it's possible, a PGI or intern did the extraction while the residents guided them.

this will serve as a lesson to the doctors and nurses in sotto who treat poor patients like they usually do..mayra pud they should know better..
