It seems to me that in this era of very high fuel prices, now might not be the best time to make this kind of change.
What I'm wondering is how many ships per day transit the channel? That is, what is the percentage of failure like?
And do we have reports on why these accidents occurred? Maybe we can use the lessons from those accidents to prevent future ones. We in the USA have an agency called the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) that investigates accidents. Their reports are quite interesting and help the affected parties improve the practices that caused the accident.

mas layo man tngali if ang barko mo tuyok pa sa mactan. the bridge is in the north and mindanao is in the south. as far as i know, ang para surigao kay naa sa pier 1, theres no need to pass under the bridge.
I can say that they're not making solution to the problem but adding another problem instead!
bitaw padung north ang para Surigao nga barko.. 1st time nako sakay last year kuyawan jud ko nganong ni-agi ilawm sa bridge abi nako ang para Ilo-ilo akong nasakyan..hahahaOriginally Posted by pridi
I don't know the the exact numbers but the channel is the busiest in the region.. regarding with the precentage of failure, there were like only 2 accidents reported which involved 2 non-passenger vessels if i'm not mistaken.Originally Posted by David Dennis
Yes I agree w/ u Mr. D... The passenger vessels should be excluded in this planned rerouting for the benefit of the riding public. Anyway these passenger ships pass through the channel almost everyday.. And for sure their navigating crew are already very much used to maneuvering their vessels safely through the channel.

sakto diay. akong gi tan aw sa mapa, mas doul jud diay if padung sa north. then mo agi between bohol and leyte right?Originally Posted by Motownkid
