PM delayed?

Why does it takes sometime hours before a PM is finally sent to the receipient? I had this a couple of time in the last days. I sent a PM and the pm was still in the outbox on the next day. So I delete and sent again and after a couple of hours, the PM was finally sent.

It doesn't disappear from your Outbox until the recipient opens it.

if i send a message and it doesnt appear in my outbox, does it mean that it was not sent

beor's reply was for the previous board used which was phpbb. now, if you send a pm it will not show in your outbox unless you save it.

ok, so is there another way to be sure that your pm was sent other than saving it

as long as it doesn't give you an error, your message has been sent.
