This idea of a bridge connecting Cebu and Negros Oriental has long been in the drawing board of then Negros Oriental governor Dodo Macias.

The main reason he could not have this idea realized was because he could not pull the funding required. I came in at one brief time to help in the formation of a funding consortium; but the whole team saw no possibility at that point in time. We even had to bring the enitre JICA to Siquijor for a three-day strategic planning. All this resulted to nothing for the reason there were more important priorities that needed more immediate focus.

maam, dli ingon ana ka layo ang bohol-cebu nor negros-cebu, if ang plete sa cebu-bogo by bus is 30 nga mas layo pa sa bohol-cebu pla nalang kaha ang plete sa bohol-cebu noh?

and about that fixing of roads is i guess ive already answered that

    chika lang ni maam ha
my point is, instead of driving all the way to those places and spend a whole lot of money in building these bridges, why don't people just take the boat and avoid traffic and let the government attend to more important matters.

chica ra pod ni ako fafa marvs.

Speaking of medicines, hospitals, and school buildings, these are the responsibilities of the Congressmen assigned to each district...

Though the construction of the bridges would be costly but look at the long term benefits...

When construction of the second mactan bridge and even the first mactan bridge itself were conceived, these were first thought to be expensive.. "Why not just ride a barge which is much cheaper and does not involve much gasoline?" some retorted... "Only the rich can use it because they have cars..." according to some... But look at them (the Mactan bridges) now....

Again which is more impractical, spending national funds for the construction of the Clark-Subic-Manila Highway and the full blown development of the Clark International Airport (even if there's another international airport a few kilometers away).... Or the construction of these bridges which would benefit all people of the Visayas?
This project is non sense. We have a huge budget deficit to overcome. Heck, even building a single classroom is very hard to implement because of deficit problems.

People, we dont have resources to afford such a luxury. This is a vey stupid idea. Instead of pouring money to more pressing needs some people still have the gall to waste our money to these useless projects which will become white elephant anyway.

The distance between Negros and Cebu and Bohol respectively is too wide. Heck, they didnt even build a bridge between Spain and Gibraltar because of the high cost, now we have these wild dream of connecting not only one but two islands; its beneficial effects on the people is still suspect.

I cant imagine why some people can still afford to throw away so much money in the midst of grinding poverty of our people.

If its not stupidity, i dont know what it is.

allotted money for feasibility study of the project alone is around 100 MILLION..

my goodness! that would equate to a number of schools to far flung areas..

talking about greed and stupidity, there are plans to build a bridge across the bering strait linking siberia and alaska, and only the limits of the capabilities of the people behind it are hindering them. it makes us wonder why would they build the almost impossible when there are already supergiant ships that can carry thousands of cars and anything in one haul and there are jumbo jets that can deliver anything from one point of the globe to the opposite side just overnight.
there's one thing that a road can provide which the sea and air transport can't, seamless connectivity, for people, goods, etc,. it even means freedom for some people. for us who spent most of our lives in a small island can't grasp or appreciate that fully, pardon me

again, talking about greed and stupidity, we can take a look at manila and luzon where almost all of 'greedy' and 'stupid' infrastractures are located. can you pass by the skyway without paying a big amount of money? going to the north expressway, you can see long stretches of it are overhead highways crossing ricefields. that means dry land, not water. stupid? no, just practical. that is the backbone of luzon and vital to the nation's economy. so, why can't we build a similar practical infrastructure in the visayas? aren't we vital to the nation's economy as well? one more interesting thing, there aren't a number of majestic schools and sparkling hospitals in that part of luzon, not even bamboo huts schools or fly-infested clinics. talk about priorities.

well, this topic is not exactly about priorities. i guess, it's about the bridge itself and it's impact to the economy and the people. but due to our economic situation we can't help but confuse our visions with the nagging reality. anyways, this is still just a plan. we can sit back and watch the schools and hospitals being built, hopefully. and make sure nobody gets a cut out of the budget, and pray not too many will grow up ignorant or die in illnesses before they are completed.

Your politician love this kind of projects. Why? They can get a share of the alloted money easily that doesnt require accounting and when all said and done, there is no standing bridge. After all it is just a study.

You should investigate the politician who approved this study.

Well the 100million pesos is just nothing compared to the P10 BILLION pesos that will be spent for the "improvement" of the SLEX in Manila... not to mention also the very very very expensive Macapagal Highway in Pasay City, the useless redundant airports in Subic and Clark, the overpriced "rehabilitation" of the North Railroad in Luzon, the white elephant NAIA III..... and a lot lot more..........

The bridges will be constructed to boost the development of the Visayan economy..
