once again, dont attack the people who are leading the party. We are here as a party, attack us as a party.

True, that the SSC's true goal is to cater the needs of the students, and we have different styles and method in reaching out to them. though our style was effective, pero the people who will benefit such actions are the student organizations. and we are not here in the council to be credited by our work, but to develop the organization so that they can grow. Protect the generel interest of the students and make them realize the different national and campus issues.

OUR HISTORY
The Student Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy (STAND-USC) was established on September 21, 1983.
STAND was founded amid rampant campus and peoples rights repression in the dark days of the Martial Law. Seeing the need for an alliance that will respond to the growing dissent of the students, a group of concerned students, student leaders, student organizations, fraternities and sororities, and progressive leaders from national youth organizations. With the united vision to create a student council that will respond to the rampant human rights violations that are going on in the country and to concretize the sentiments of the Carolinian students. During those dark times, STAND was formed.


WHAT IS STAND?
STAND or the Student Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy is the oldest existing progressive alliance of student individuals and student organizations in the University of San Carlos today. It genuinely and firmly protects the students and peoples democratic rights and welfare.
Unlike other political party in the campus, which only exists on election campaign periods, STAND is renowned to be always at the forefront of student struggles at all times.

STAND aims to consistently be in the forefront of the struggles leading the students to take action in their plight. We want to help elevate the consciousness of the studentry in national issues and concerns, thus encouraging participation in shaping the nation's history. We plan to build alliances with the other sectors of the academe and the society to strengthen the fight for our rights.
As an alliance and a political force, STAND believes that through our united and collective analysis and action we can further advance our democratic rights and welfare.

Genuine to its progressive principle of serving the studentry and the people, STAND continues to lead and thrives to build the organization and consolidate its rank.

Hey Guys! Buhi pa diay ni nga forum? hehe it's been a while since I checked..

(INDICATIONS: Please read thoroughly before commenting and saying that this is another "desperate attempt from a TINGOG supporter". It would be highly appreciated that in lieu of baseless and derogatory comments, well-mannered, issue-based responses can be made instead.)

Anyhow, good that craniac mentioned that the uniform policy created a domino effect, resulting in the implementation, or proposed implementation, of other so-called 'repressive' policies by the USC Administration. That is so true and I couldn't agree with him/her more.

F A C T S

Like I mentioned in my previous entries here, the MALE UNIFORM POLICY has come into fruition because of the NEW FEMALE UNIFORM POLICY (the mother of all policies implemented since Y2K). The implementation of the NEW FEMALE UNIFORM, not the MALE UNIFORM, in effect, was the first domino that fell, creating a cataclysmic chain reaction- the "domino effect" that we speak of today.

And I'd like to restate, categorically that is, for the benefit of those who seem to have difficulty in understanding very basic English, that the NEW FEMALE UNIFORM was implemented in Academic Year 2002-2003, during the Administration of the Student Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy or STAND in the Supreme Student Council. It was during STAND's Vincent Sandoval and Eugene Manatad's terms as President and Vice President of the SSC, respectively, that this highly repressive policy was implemented.

And worse of all, in the CONSULTATION with the USC Administration regarding the implementation of the NEW FEMALE UNIFORM, STAND's Manatad, along with STAND Councilorial Candidate Ms. Abigail Vivares (also of Today's Carolinian) did not oppose this move that would, in the coming months and years, pave the way for the implementation of more seemingly despotic University policies- - - including the much hyped and talked-about Male Uniform Policy.

What is even more baffling to me was when Ms. Vivares (of STAND) even suggested to the USC Administration that the materials for the uniform (the cloth, buttons, et al.) should be sold by USC exclusively. She cited the practice of other schools as her example.

O P I N I O N S

Forgive me for passing judgment, but this has given me the impression that STAND's current politics and position on this issue is rather inconsistent with its early actions or inactions.

Now why am I raising this again? It seems that some people have deliberately overlooked (or maybe failed to read) these important facts. I suspect this since the issue of the Male Uniform has, in the last two elections, been recycled/rehashed without any due regard to the history of the uniforms we have today. It is vital that we go to the root-cause of the problem if we wish to have a sound, coherent, and objective assessment of any issue, and USC's Uniform Policy is no exception to this.

I just wish that STAND would stop casting the first stone when, in fact, it has also had its fair share of faux pas, indiscretions or mistakes (especially in regard to our dreadful Uniforms). Thankfully, TINGOG Carolinian, albeit also being imperfect, has never had the tendency to recycle issues (unless otherwise extremely necessary) or make issues out of non-issues to try win elections, otherwise, USC, nay the Carolinians themselves must contend with a politics that dwells so much on the past when we all deserve one that looks forward to the future and the endless possibilities that come with it.

As to accusations that STAND did not do anything last year, I must disagree. One mustn't really blame everything on them since some students simply don't care and it is a known fact that "we can never please everyone". STAND had some projects last year (and in the previous year as well) but the really important ones that appeared in their brochure, the ones that, I believe, the students elected them for were never realized.
