Could you please post your FEEDBACK with your BONETRAIL MOBO.

We been trick  by Intel that the memory standard of their mobo is DDR3 1333. The fact is, if your going to leave your settings to default, it will only set to DDR3 1066. Asside from that, temp readings doesn't make sense. It could be bios problem, but I already update my bios with the latest bios intel could provide. I'm tired of searching some fact from the web coz i don't have the convenience to do this coz I'm a little bit busy as of the moment. Maybe from here, we could share what we experience from it.

As you can see, the temp is too high, this is in moderate to almost idle state. But I am using Zalman CNPS 9700, I don't know what is wrong.

Theres my Zalman. My wiring is too sloppy coz I don't have my time nowadays but i will make it better when time comes. I already prepares some stuff to clean it up so it would be more representable.

as you can see, the timing is up to 533Mhz. So you should set your mem manually to utilize your RAM. I have Patriot DDR3 1600 RAM, so I haven't utilize it to the fullest and its a waste of my money since this is very expensive when I got it.

But this mobo is not that really bad, coz the integrated audio is an excellent High Definition 7.1 and it so awesome. Its just that the BIOS is still buggy, I think.

Theres also one thing that I forgot to mention, I have to boot twice before I can successfully have a signal going to the lcd. During the first boot, it seems like no signal has been sent to the monitor. I wait for maybe 2-3 minutes but nothing comes to the monitor without beep or whatever. But the mobo is lit, all the fans are working, its just that there is no signal sent to the monitor. I don't know what happen, I never had this type of problem before. But with the second boot, not a problem at all. That is why, I just put my computer to low power state (Vista Feature). So by the time I use it, I don't have that problem of booting twice.

I have a feeling that my mobo has a problem, but its difficult for me to claim for the warranty coz I purchase it in the states. The fact is, it cost me a lot with the duty and freight charge. Not to mention that all the parts of my rig are from the states.

I dont know much about X38's but im 100% sure it officially supports 333.33 and 400fsb out of the box. But i do believe that Intel sets it at 266fsb by default for boot up compatibility reasons, you just have to manually set the correct dividers ( w/c i find normal )

For your temp issue, you need to use Real Temp ( found in extreme systems ) and follow its calibration method, or just use coretemp and select it to display the delta to TjMax, keeping 25~30c away from TjMax should keep your processor healthy.

Your next issue is a cold boot issue, that is a known factory defect in one of the transistors on the board, people have proven that by running a hairdryer near the socket of the CPU and they can eliminate the cold boot issue, basically its a transistor that switch even at normal room temps, the only thing you can do about it is RMA.

thanks. I really do believe that my mobo is the problem, then I will just use this till when this dies rather than spending again for sending this back. Sometimes badluck really hit you... that's life.
Regarding Real temp and core temp, I already heard with it before, its just that I am not that interested with it since I don't have a problem with temp calibration with my previous rigs. I am hoping that Intel will have a BIOS that already do the job. But its just that you really can't expect to be fully supported with the board manufacturer (not just mobo manufacturer but as well as other hardware manufacturer, bug is part of the business. LOL).

No amount of bios revision can get you accurate temps, until intel release the official TjMax for each of its processor.

I believe you are right, that would be the case.

But you can always trust the delta to TjMax, that is 100% accurate as that data comes from the DTS, just keep a 25~30c distance from max and you are safe. that would roughly translate to 65~70c in real world temps
