i think she deserves every ridicule for her braggadocio. A learning lesson for those who feign confidence and intelligence. Here's a piece of my mind:

    1. It (the question) wasn't rocket science to begin with.
    2. She tried to fool the audience that she wasn't scared a sh!t. And when sh!t came, she covered every sh!t she said that she was only seventeen and that she should be excused for sh!tting out. The worst part was that she kept uttering sh!t when she could have said it in Tagalog defying the advice of the host. I mean it's no shame to be talking in Tagalog, at least she could have been honest enough that, like you and me, she too had trouble with English.

We all know or understand how difficult it is to be on stage...but she could have been truthful how she felt at that point. Even professional stage performers openly admit to their audience that they too suffer stage fright on many occasions. And her comes her at seventeen, had the the guts to pretend and ooze forth a confidence that was all along big time fake.

    She had it coming.

"Philippines is a country of beauty pageants. It is an anywhere, anytime event. I can't imagine a Philippine town fiesta in this country without a beauty contest. More often than not, a beauty competition is the celebration's highlight. Conveniently, Filipinas are naturally beautiful, so bakit hindi. Filipinos' fondness for this pageantry is unmistakable. We even created one international tourney -- the "Miss Earth" -- that debuted in 2001. Not surprisingly. Like many modern Filipino fascinations adapted into mainstream culture, pageant acculturation is I suppose, courtesy of western domination...

...Seen this way, I deduce this is the context of Miss World beauty pageant's slogan: "Beauty with a Purpose". Major international pageants in fact, foster a cause, often charitable. Though beauty competitions are largely based on beauty of face and physique, it is not always form. Substance matters so much. That's where intelligence, inner beauty and other abstract positive ideals come in as important criterion in the contest. The proverbial "grace under pressure" during the question and answer portion is a factor that is expected to surface.

To some extent, beauty pageants are seen as events of worldwide importance. Countries send representatives in the spirit of goodwill and worthwhile universal involvement. What benefits ultimately from these events are thousands of children in hunger-stricken nations and victims of catastrophes. For this reason, notwithstanding the downside and regardless of what critics say, beauty contests today have become a respectable entertainment with a noble goal. Beyond spectacle and grandiosity, there is a decent purpose.

This is what I hope local pageants should deepen. Giving a candidate sophisticated training will only be complementary to the beauty pageant's well-meant intentions. Beauty queen aspirants -- young women like Bea -- will surely gain beautiful experiences from joining. But what's more beautiful is when they embrace and share the beauty of purpose that a beauty contest espouses. Surely, amid the blinding footlights and flair of beauty pageantry, a well-meaning candidate will spontaneously speak from her heart, because she knows, she is joining a hearty cause."

Default Why Janina San Miguel won in Bb. Pilipinas for Ms. World????

    Hi istoryans...

Why do you think Janina San Miguel won? i've seen the way she answers in the Q&A portion and wala jud sya sa point. And, grabeh ang wrong grammar.. and sooo informal.
Ako, Kapamilya man ko, and i dont give a damn unta kung unsay kalaki sa ubang networks pero ang gipada-og nila, DAMAY TIBUUK PILIPINAS!

Maulaw kaayu ko for her to go for Ms. World.
But, since napa syay 7 months to go, i hope she'll do something about her failure in English.

    BUT WHY DID SHE WON

    let's ponder on this guys:

"What benefits ultimately from these events are thousands of children in hunger-stricken nations and victims of catastrophes. Beauty pageants like Bb Pilipinas and Miss World are not only for entertainment, spectacle, and grandiosity. In the bigger picture, they are largely for the benefit of hunger-stricken children and victims of catastrophes...they have a decent purpose and noble goal...

correction. WHY DID SHE "WIN" ?

Q&A portion is just a small fraction of the entire judging criteria. she flunked in the Q&A but she won the long gown, swimsuit category, and maybe high scores from other categories...plus maybe her congenial attitude towards her fellow contestants made her win overall.

if we talk about Miss World, take note: walay Q&A portion...

is that so? i always thought it was largely for the benefit of sponsors and endorsers..
one can always help hunger-stricken children and victims of catastrophes without wearing heels and make-up.

yes and no. actually, it is a 2-way street. the sponsors benefit from the ads and commercials while the hunger-stricken kids and calamity victims benefit from their funds...they (pageant organizers) are "conduits" for these to happen. it is no different from world-wide hunger or calamity foundations per se...the only difference is the "heels-and-make up show" as u put it...

as the Miss World Motto says, "BEAUTY WITH A PURPOSE".

did u know that the complete name of Bb Pilipinas is "Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated (BPCI)"?

BPCI donates all its earnings to a string of orphanages in Metro Manila including day care centers in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

    Why?

    1. Filipinos favored the underdog.
    2. She got the look, body and style.
    3. She's just 17.. Like Manny Pacman pwdi pa madevelop.
    4. She is very confident despite the fact of her weakness.
    5. She answered the basic Filipino value but " My Familee is the most important persons in my life".
    6. She is unique.

If I were to judge that pageant, I will cast the same vote.

NO DOUBT, SHE WILL ALSO BE THE NEXT YOUTUBE HIT. SHE'S A WINNER FOR ME.

SO DONT ENGLIS THE PINOY HA!!
