im using linux right now both for games, multimedia, and desktop. i have no problems since i have installed it. its quite stable, indeed, but needs updating and patching from time to time. updating your software is very important especially when you are administrating a computer network.
when it comes to games, no problems. i usually play FPS-type of games (i.e. Cube, Quake 4, Enemy Territory, Unreal Tournament, Doom 3, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and others alike). but there are othe types of games, such as, bomber man, civilization, tux racer, mahjong, just to name a few.
playing movies? no problem (again)! i use MPlayer as my media player but there are others out there. but this usually depends on your taste of choice whichever you are comfortable with.
generally, linux is the only OS i have ever used in which i dont worry about virii, worms, and internet attacks (it seems so). i dont have to worry about support since the my distro got a great forum where people would really help you.
now, i do hope my comments would enlighten you about linux.
im running Libranet 2.8.1 (Free Edition), btw, if that matters.
