if layperson lang ka of course they will accept anyone. Pero do you know that the Dalai Lama's advise to those who are attracted to buddhism but naa silay other religion nga gi love is to STAY in that religion na lang because it might create pain among sa family members. Anyways ang compassion/mercy which is the central practice of buddhism is universal man sab.
