This is simple really and doesn't really need discussion.
Threads that have been "tolerated" as you say simply aren't caught. Robots don't moderate forums and things will slip through.
Airsoft equipment was disallowed because we were under the impression that they were banned by law. If that is the case, the rule stands, you can't plead your case because you have no ground to stand on. I believe there was discussion about this about Airsoft guns used to commit crimes and/or threats in the past where people would comply because they thought they were real guns.
If the law doesn't exist (and we will find out soon), then I personally believe that there is no reason Airsoft equipment shouldn't be allowed. End of story. Everyone run along and play with your play guns.
The rule stands - No guns.
