    @carmicaeld

    read my previous posts... what you quoted was only a part of a point I was making.... if you read the posts before that you'll get it.

    With regards to your post about reusing the XP kernel.... It all boils down to money.... a new OS will mean more money for Microsoft since they expect people using XP to migrate to Vista. Its financial suicide for them to support DX10 on XP ... because this is one of the selling points of vista.

    Don't u get it? Technically it is possible for them to do it BUT business wise.. they don't want to do it.. Whatever time and production costs you mention are far outweighed by the revenues generated by a new OS. M$ wants you to keep paying them for a new OS every few years... get it?

    M$ is more of a business /marketing firm than it is a software company.

    OT:

    Haha...boils down to money?

    Mao man jud na, pero in the case of Vista, it isn't just for business.

    Consider this, if you had a kernel, phat enough (though it sucks) that people bought for the past few years, why not just reuse (and add some few things) the same kernel and market it as a different product? Why rewrite?

    It's like this, pal, Vista is a rewritten windows kernel, and it takes so much precious time to make. And take note, time is equal to money. So why rewrite?

    This is because microsoft planned to release a new OS every now and then. Remember How Win98 died? This was part of their roadmap. Software continue to change. It is just that way. I don't even know if you understand what I'm saying, pero making software work is not as easy as you think. IT is a painstaking task...

    M$ IS a software company "slash (/)" marketing firm.

    If M$ wants money for their OS's, well, they have every right. Time and production costs are outweighted? maybe, maybe...
    pero, they would still generate more money, if they just reused the windows kernel and market it as a different product.

    And oh, by the way, I read ALL posts in a thread before posting.
