Wow! Those are some harsh words, Godsaint. I don't want to reinforce your dislike of "foreigners", but I have to bring up a point that may rub you the wrong way. You seem to get pretty upset with the idea of a non-filipino mistreating one of your countrymen. How do you feel when you see wealthy filipinos mistreating filipinos who are less fortunate? Isn't that even worse? I see that happening every day. Do you stand up for the mistreated helper? The poor ya ya? The neglected driver? The abused waitress? Maybe your "warning" should be extended to cover your own countrymen if they violate your rules of conduct.

More tourists means more dollars coming in, though its value is getting lesser by the day.

Perhaps you need to walk around Cebu a bit more to see the mistreatment of your own people, that is mistreatment not committed by 'aliens' as you so politely call us.

If you look at this thread

    https://www.istorya.net/forums/index....,160408.0.html

and see the charity that I help out with, it's run by those bad "Aliens" and supported by "bad Aliens" in Britain. Last year they raised over $500,000 to help out the poor in the Philippines. They take kids of the street and try to give them an education, they build schools, give medical attention to those that need it. They give them meals as they have no food to eat, give them clothes and shoes as they have nothing to waer!! And there are a number of young girls who were street prostitutes, not from tourist areas, but from rural area, only locals use them, not those bad "Aliens" you so despise.

Tell me, what are these special laws that give special treatment to Foreigners? You mention this earlier. I don't know of any, do you mean bribes that can be paid to certain people in order to get off with a crime? If a foreigner commits a crime he should be jailed for it, if he can pay someone money to get away with it then who is at fault?

I'm not sure of the reason you hate "foreigners" and "Aliens" so much. Perhaps you are just racist and biggoted. People like you stop tourists coming to your country and spending money, instead, when they see the likes of you they go to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore where they know they get a little bit of respect and are welcomed as "Tourists and guests," not treated as unwelcome "Foreigners"

I've never come across someone like you thankfully on my trips to the Philippines or I would surely never have come back. I have always met friendly people, It does not matter where i have stayed, from Bislig to Davao to Cebu, whether I have been diving, climbing or playing badminton. When I last visited I was at Metrosports playing badminton and a couple of guys just came up and invited me on to play with them which I thought was great (apart from the fact they beat me )

I would love to buy a house in your country, that would bring tax dollars(sorry, pesos) to your country, that would provide employment for up to 1 year for builders, it would provide business for suppliers of building materials, but you don't want that, instead I'll just rent and pay cash to the owner of the property so no taxes get paid, that makes a lot of sense!!!
I honestly have nothing against foreigners, I even want them to own land. However, there are SOME rude foreigners (mostly coming from a European country).

What I was trying to say is that, how much more if we give these kind of farang a chance to own land?

I'm fortunate enough to have travelled and worked in a lot of different countries. Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand and now America. I've met rude people from all over the world, they are normally a minority thankfully. I don't agree with them, no matter who they are, and if I saw a rude one in the PI, especially towards a local, I would say something. We allow Philippinos to come to the USA and Britain and work, buy property and live as well as the locals do. Just lie I have had a few locals point and laugh at me when they see me with my Filipina g/f walking through the streets are in the mall. i would classify that as rude but I do not tarnish the whole of your country with it!!!!!

I've asked for examples of peoples rudeness and no one here has given me a single example. If someone bumping into you is an example then it is a very poor one.

If you don't want us to own house and land that's fine by me. You are the ones that are suffering due to lack of foreign investment and the money we could bring in to your country. i would love my own property there to live with my local wife and our kids when we have them, but your laws say I can't so I will have to rent instead. Or better still, buy in Spain or France and retire there just like a lot of other foreigners do.

oh freeheeler why im not surprise.

if you really want to own a house in the Philippines, consult a lawyer (a good one) there is a reason why they are perfect for sorting through endless words of no ordinary people cant understand (aka finding loopholes). which is what foreigners in England use, its not illegal. as for having a perceived view that the laws are not right for you not to own property, there is the reason for that. first try to take out the notion of "why cant you do it here, they allow it in France, Spain, etc.". the missing part of that arguement is we are not at the same economic status as you are in Britain. example: try having a hundred Englishmen owning property in Cebu and host those type of parties that are illegal in England ( like wild underage orgy) yes its still illegal in the Philippines but you can pay off a crap load of money to people and authorities to shut up. where as a hundred Filipino who owned property in England (provided you are a legal resident or a asylum seeker see the contrast) will only be concerned about not being tax to death. See the difreence? the key word here is power, and its not balance.

Also you should remind people here in Istorya.net before going into a rant about the worlds famous "British moaning" which some Scottish and Welsh individuals i know will refer to you freedom of expression. and dont tell me it is not a shared tendencies by all remember the old Brit tv series called "thats life", which aired for a long time. and the newest incarnation of it is another series marketed as a consumer program "are we being served"?

You are a perfectly rational person as long as you talk a fellow Brit. People will get offended about ones way of expressing a point of view, its a cultural thing something all should know/understand then respect it and worked on peoples sensibility's to get your point across.

sorry for butting in the middle of your harsh exchange of words w/ freeheeler. it seems that u have "racist" tendencies towards our foreign visitors. if u have a tendency to hate them in one way or another, i suggest you make friends and acquaintances with them first and be exposed to their cultural differences. the more, the better...better yet, mo-lugsong sab ka panagsa from your bukid and be exposed sa urban life in Cebu City, Mandaue City, or Talisay City. as we all know, international or even local travel is educational.

in the long run, your perspectives towards foreign guests will be wider and broader, and not as negative & narrow-minded as you portrayed here in istorya. u cannot change foreign guests' attitude and behavior overnight...they come from a different part of the world. it is just a matter of understanding, tolerance, and critical thinking for both sides.

mind u, i was also even guilty of Cebuano arrogance and feeling superior when i visited Manila, Bohol, Negros, and some parts in Mindanao. and to think, these places are our own. and to add, when i visited Hong Kong, i was also guilty of the same. but that doesn't mean i tried my best to change my attitude and behavior.

as we also know, it is part of progress, "THE RESISTANCE TO CHANGE". who knows? later on, we could become a multi-racial melting pot, just like L.A., Tokyo, or Hong kong...

i know it is a harsh sort of accusation but let me remind you again that this topic is not a "hate or racist thread" against foreign guests or tourists.

    @freeheeler:
it also seems that you are repeatedly moaning about not having the opportunity to own land here in Phils. I understand that u consider the Phils. as one of your possible retirement places. But pls. do understand the policies here why u can't own land in Phils.

u can be more creative u know, like u can own condos or beach resort shareholdings here i think.

or if not, why not marry ur pinay g/f ? she can still retain her filipino citizenship u know and still buy properties here....or get a lawyer perhaps (as what another poster has mentioned) and let the property be in your g/f's name but add some sort of "fine prints" just for you to control the ownership in one way or another.
