That's true it's been since the discovery of the wheel. What I am implying sir is that science will always be ahead of religion. Just my 2 cents worth.Originally Posted by Tin_Tin

I even present a more conservative view diay...I don't think that one has to necessarily be ahead of the other--sa ako, a balanced life is THE life I'd want to live--if someone asks me what my religion or what my beliefs are, I will just tell him nga, even though I consider myself a man of science, my own views on spirituality is something I'm very comfy with and that I can assure others around me that they shouldn't worry about my happiness.Originally Posted by tripwire

yah, there are verses in the Bible that tells about Science.. one is about circumcision.. the Bible says that every 8 day old boy should be circumcised.. and the reason is this, in the 8th day of a baby boy, it produces some kind of blood-clotting thing that only happens on the 8th day of the child.. which means blood clots easily on that day.. which makes it the best day to have a circumcision.. unya bag.o ra nah na discover sa science.. nag una pa ang bible..Originally Posted by amingb
naa pud about the water cycle and the Orion.. but i can't tell where exactly..
No. It does NOT tell about science, but these are just mere records of observation of these celestial bodies. Please try to be concise and specific.Originally Posted by deity777
And, furthermore, the reference are if any, brief and incomplete...
First we tackle this...
Job 9:9 ...he names as constellations of greatest eminency; but under them he seems to comprehend all the stars, which as they were created by God, so are under his government. Arcturus is a northern constellation, near that called the Bear. Orion is a more southerly constellation, that rises to us in December. The Pleiades is a constellation not far from Orion, which we call the seven stars: by the chambers, (or inmost chambers, as the word signifies) of the south, he seems to understand those stars and constellations which are toward the southern pole, which are called inward chambers, because they are for the most part hid and shut up from these parts of the world.
This account is by no means being "scientific"--it is simply a product of the observation of the sky by people, and narrating what they see. The names of the major constellations go back a long time even before the biblical times, which only means that human have been keen observers ever since he managed to develop sentience. The passage doesn't attempt to explain what the Constellations consist of, if they are stars or whatnot, and thus they totally devoid the hallmark of anything scientifically plausible. They do, however, tell us that the constellations were in fact, visible during those times, and in a sense, gives us a sense of comfort--a connection between the past and the present.
Then we tackle this...
Job 38:31
"Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades, Or loose the cords of Orion?"
It is clearly evident nga ang reader would have no prior knowledge that those tasks kay imposible buhaton tungod kay Orion really doesn't have a "belt"...it's just a happenstance aligning of three stars, known as Alnilam, Altinak and ____ (I forgot the name of the other one). Again Constellations are merely patterns we perceive because to the unaided eye, the stars appear to cluster together, when in fact if you use a telescope, you'd realize how far apart they are from each other.
Finally we tackle...
Amos 5:8
He who made the Pleiades and Orion And changes deep darkness into morning...
Again, only brief references to two constellations with no hallmark of any scientific reasoning nor deduction.
Do not mistake me--I love these Bible passages, because as an amateur astronomer, I am delighted with the fact that I share a common bond/interest with whoever recorded the passages in the book of Job. But anyone telling me that these passages are "scientific" in nature have to seriously recheck their knowledge bin.
