read a book (for vocabulary)
watch lots and lots of american and english movies.. (the way they use the sentence, accent)
then practice...

If only to learn the technical side, sans pronunciation, get a good comprehensive manual on the English language, and work at it, until one learns it by heart. From then on, one may practice by working on the literary pieces, both in appreciation and in creative expression.
