dili man pili-an ang asus, maski unsa na dvd iyang ma play.
ayaw lang i set ang region sa imong dvd-rom.
even generic dvd's maka read gihapon.

i have an Asus DVD-ROM and it doesn't read some of my DVDRs well. i would go with either a Lite-on 166S or an AOpen 1648. both are also fast for ripping.
if you want to test a drive, load a DVD into it, run Nero CD/DVD speed and do a transfer rate test. take a look at the graph and you'll see how good the drive performs when it reads a disc.
an example of a good reader:

kung fast ripping, Lite-on. but i usually use the LG combo drive (the one on the graph) of my laptop coz i rip straight to its harddisk. the Asus drive is in my PC, which i seldom use. i only bought the Asus coz unfortunately, it was the only drive available at that time (out of stock man gud ang Lite-on)

regarding the region setting of your DVD-ROM, you can also use a software-based region-freeing tool, like DVD43Free. no need to set the region of your DVD-ROM drive.Originally Posted by StyM
another tip, when you burn using DVD+R media, use the bitset functionality of your writer to set the booktype of your media to DVD-ROM. most drives read DVD-ROMs faster than DVDRs
