    Default Re: Merged: Irresponsible Media?

i think the Senate should take notice on this ruthless ratings war thingy between the 2 networks and also to study wats going on with this rather bizarre media culture nowadays...at least this issue of "irresponsible media" takes a legislative beating...
there's a danger there. government meddling can be used by certain vested interests to effectively silence the media.

even if we grant that such "legislative inquiries" may have pure intentions, it can still be interpreted and portrayed as "media suppression" by those who are in the media whose interests would be imperiled once such inquiries really do take place.

and we know for a fact our own history of media suppression by the Marcos regime, and where public sympathy was directed during that time. add to that the capability of mainstream media to shape and control favorable or adverse opinion against anything or anyone, any act of legislation aimed at any sort of control over corporate media would be like stirring a hornet's nest.

i know dat (stirring a hornet's nest)...but if they (senate) will be more creative and direct in their approach, say, they are calling the 2 networks for investigation on their out-of-proportion ratings war, then it would just be fair enough and it would be too far from the media suppression stigma...

quite possible. but that would be like walking in a tightrope. i am sure the network giants would only want government meddling if the outcome favors one of them and destroys the other.
