advantage lang anang branded PSU, you have the confidence of adding much accessories (i.e. additional Fans, CCFL, additional HDD, etc.) and overclocking your system without worrying about your PSU and other hardware components and main board.. especially if you have a higher wattage and a good branded PSU...

and higher Efficiency ang mga branded and sakto ilang labels.. unlike sa uban, generic, kay usahay d man mao ilahang labels.. and cheap electronic components ra ang gamitun...

For me, I dont go for branded but for one that is already proven to deliver and perform.

My first generic PSU ended with 13.2V in its 12V rail. 1.3V in 1.2V rail. 4.7V in its 5V rail. Very horrible!

My second PSU just retired with its switching circuit jumping when loaded. Tuo ko nga BIOS blema sa ako PC.

And to think, all these two are connected to a UPS.

In my observation, generic PSUs can serve you for a year. Branded maybe 2 or 3 years.

You want your stuff to last? Never abuse it.

It depends on what you mean by "branded", I guess. Dynamo PSUs are branded, and yet are being avoided due to a bad reputation. How about we make recommendations?

I'd recommend HEC, Enermax, Antec, Coolermaster. You may also want to check out Anandtech's PSU reviews. They have a very thorough and interesting way of testing PSU reliability.

Branded PSU have what is called "true-rated" watts, while a Generic power supply's is totally bogus. Also component wise branded PSU have better parts (big heatsinks & well known capacitor brands used) and are of a better contruction than Generic PSUs.

For example my friend had this setup:

    Duron 1.3
    512MB DDR
    128 Radeon 9200
    1x40gb + 1x320GB
    2xCombo Drives

When the 320GB HDD was added the generic 300W PSU (IIRC, ANS and brand) he used coul'nt handle it. It would'nt even boot to Windows just stays at POST then shuts down.

Later, replaced it with a 300W HEC PSU, and it handled the rig very nicely. No problems whatsoever.

IIRC, some of Sparkle Power, Inc's power supplies are rebranded FSP/Fortron Source models, whihc are also revered by people over at -Badcaps.net.

If your system load is "idle" then task is perfect for the job. the power draw is minimal.

I use a 680W Apevia, which handles my 8800GTX Extreme, 4GB DDR2 and a quad core (plus about 1 TB of harddrives) just perfectly fine.
