^Dili KSP oi. Grabe pud. But rockart9 is right. It's Definitely an occupational hazard. Plus, its quite insulting to be sick when you're in the medical field. I mean, you are supposed to know better. Daghan ways to prevent instead of cure. But most of all, i see people suffering everyday and i don't wanna put myself and my loved ones through that. Grabe ang stress physically, emotionally, spiritually and even financially if you get sick.

    Munchausen Syndrome...

Note: Although Munchausen syndrome most properly refers to a factitious disorder with primarily physical symptoms, the term is sometimes used to refer to factitious disorders in general. In this article, Munchausen syndrome refers to factitious disorder with physical symptoms.

What are the symptoms of Munchausen syndrome?
People with this syndrome deliberately produce or exaggerate symptoms in several ways. They might lie about or fake symptoms, hurt themselves to bring on symptoms, or alter diagnostic tests (such as contaminating a urine sample). Possible warning signs of Munchausen syndrome include the following:

    * Dramatic but inconsistent medical history
    * Unclear symptoms that are not controllable and that become more severe or change once treatment has begun
    * Predictable relapses following improvement in the condition
    * Extensive knowledge of hospitals and/or medical terminology, as well the textbook descriptions of illnesses
    * Presence of multiple surgical scars
    * Appearance of new or additional symptoms following negative test results
    * Presence of symptoms only when the patient is alone or not being observed
    * Willingness or eagerness to have medical tests, operations, or other procedures
    * History of seeking treatment at numerous hospitals, clinics, and doctors offices, possibly even in different cities
    * Reluctance by the patient to allow health care professionals to meet with or talk to family, friends, or prior health care providers
    * Problems with identity and self-esteem

    What causes Munchausen syndrome?
The exact cause of Munchausen syndrome is not known, but researchers believe both biological and psychological factors play a role in the development of this syndrome. Some theories suggest that a history of abuse or neglect as a child, or a history of frequent illnesses requiring hospitalization might be factors associated with the development of this syndrome. Researchers also are studying the possible link with personality disorders, which are common in individuals with Munchausen syndrome.

    History:

    * Dramatic presentations of apparently severe illnesses

    * Reported symptom patterns that fit diagnoses too perfectly and are too much like a textbook presentation

    * A history of extensive surgical procedures and inpatient workups for a variety of diseases, particularly when the workup spans multiple hospitals and cities

    * Notable vagueness or inconsistency in the details of the medical problems

    * Evidence of pathological lying in areas other than the presenting symptoms

-ako gyud ni gi duha ang reference...

rockart9, murag wala man ka na belong sa hypo sis more man kas Munchausen syndrome... kay na diagnose man kaha ka na naay congenital heart problem... so, nay organic cause ang imong anxiety..... sa ako lang pagsabot hah....

    ako sad nurse ahahaha

bitaw ang common denominator ani kay ANXIETY...
pero, kinsa man sad dili ma praning kung naa sad kas hospital oi, sagul sagul biya ang sakit... well, careful na lang with matching ampo.

well, that expalins it, ang hypochondriasis walay deliberate attempt to actually require too much attention, mura ug subconscious ra cya nga manifestation, in other words, its a game(in therapists' lingo, especially sa Transactional analysis)..Ang Munchausen, there is a deliberate attempt to make it appear that one is really sick by faking symptoms and altering samples for testing in labs.

Mao if hypochondriac, sakit sa utok, naa ra sa huna huna ba..sometimes because of this, people realize nga makaattract sila attention and subconsciously finds the idea wonderful pilegro kaayo kay himuong part sa ila personality, kung grabeh na preoccupation OCD ang resulta pwede pa gane psychosis

i had to pull out my old psychology books for this hahaha i think by factitious disorder it means its a mental disorder that the individual falsified or caused in order to get attention... Maybe the individual has had an illness that turned out to have a positive effect so they constantly make themselves ill to get that same treatment. Its almost pavlovian. and i don't think i can falsify a dysfunctional heart valve bai... its not fun na mo kalit lang kag pawng. kay kung magkinanglan lang kog attention ba mag drugas nalang ko or nag rebelde. haha Its also not fun na dili na ko ka sigarilyo ug inum nya mag mindful sa kanun.

Ang hypo naa may sakit pero ipadako lang not necessarily to get attention... but because it has some relashionship with obsessive compulsive behaviour mo insist ang person na kinanglan i serioso ang ilang complaint. I'm not saying i'm a full blown hypo (i think that's for a psychologist to figure out) pero after my diagnosis i was worrying over a lot of stuff. It could just be a form of depression... maybe. i also think i became one after my diagnosis... apparently my other doc thinks i've been suffering this for years pero my doctor since i was a kid completely missed it... bisag naa nay signs sauna pa. ang thinking man gud nako (and i'm not ashamed to admit it) kay if my doc missed my illness unsa pa kaha ang na missed niya? and its not a healthy way of thinking... doubting the people who are in charge of your health. its also mentally taxing to constantly stress over it.

but to clarify lang, i didn't put this thread up so people can dissect my situation or other people's and play shrink. (unless you are one) this sub is filled with physical health issues but rarely ones that deal with the psychological health of a person which i also consider important... our culture so easily generalizes mental disorders and dismisses them as buang and pranning. I posted this because i know there are people who may say "yes" to most of the the things that i listed and hopefully maka realize sila...

I dunno, but I think somehow naay valid basis ang imo worry, cguro lang as you claim it you think too much about it. mura ra na ug phobia ba, some fears are valid but if masobrahan na bordering to baseless na and irrational ang fear then that's when phobia sets in, which is also a form of neuroses. I,m a Psych grad by the way
