[color=navy]^^Maayo na bro. Suporta ko ana. I really believe in people who can write in the Cebuano dialect. I wish there are more of them around promoting the lokal culture through using the language and we should have more avenues for the further production of Cebuano/Bisayan literature.

Hope your short story gets published. Please keep us updated.

hello, been sneakin' here for sometime but didn't really see anyone who's into "industrial writing" (if you will) since i notice a great deal of creative writers here. i've been writing professionally for more than a decade for international, national and local publications mostly related to trade or trade policy, business/enterprise issues.
dunno if i fit in here...just askin' around

[color=navy]@brownprose, this thread is open for professional writers who are iStoryans, as well. Welcome.

Maybe you could share with us information and experiences on how you got into the business of writing and how has it rewarded you

What are the challenges and skills required for your specialized field of writing? Any plans of expanding your writing horizons?

actually i started out as a plain enterprise researcher once for a trade magazine back in the early 90s. my writing was noticed by the editor though i didn't get any formal training about writing back then. i had my first stint covering the export industry 'til i gave up writing for a while to serve some ugly politicians for a few years (which i must say wasn't really worth the money and time)...hehehe

i surfaced back into the local export scene when i was invited by a trade promotions office here to help them with their research and advocacy papers which also saw print in major dailies and national trade magazines. the frequency and substance of those articles must have gotten somehow the attention of the editors that made me among their regular contributors up to this day.

i'm not sure if most of you will agree with me, but i must say that writing is generally a thankless job...ur pay isn't really worth the brains you poured into a very good copy. what makes it really compensating or rewarding nonetheless is when u get to be appreciated for the thought or how well u have expressed the same to a very discriminating audience like businessmen, economists and trade analysts.

if ur a well-rounded writer (which i suppose most of you are), it is not so difficult to get into industry writing...you only need to understand basic business rules and little of accounting. research is also important to validate or support your stand or analysis
    to any issue.

l must say i am no expert in my domain... but i am hoping that with the help of other writers here we'd be able to exchange knowledge and perhaps collaborate in some future projects.

id rather not validate my opinions... to get torrential traffic.. convertible to cash.. kidding aside, exactly, but u need to have a good business acumen for you to standout..

[color=navy]@pinkdimensions, I think acumen can be acquired but yeah, that can be a challenge too. A lot of self-study mostly, maybe enrolling in a business class-- great if someone or a company would sponsor one through business seminars or school.

@brownprose, I agree with you when you considered business writing can be a thankless job in terms of compensation and I also agree with your statement that sometimes the appreciation is worth more than the compensation. I currently work as a technical writer myself, writing manuals and data sheets for my company's software products.

That pays the bills, but I am striving to pursue another line of writing work: an author and screenwriter which is a whole other sort of business in itself and where, I guess, the work could be its own reward.

Technical Writer by Day, Aspiring Author by Night. Yeah that's me.

@brownprose, any plans of expanding your writing horizons? As so far, I think you, pinkdimensions, and galenostiel are the iStoryan Writers involved in industry writing. Galenostiel currently works for a division of the Bigfoot company, making copy and stuff. You might want to PM her to trade some tips and pointers.

What sort of writing projects you have in mind? Hope you can contribute to the Project that we have going on here sa thread
