besides those listed I think what drives most call center people to smoke and drink is just the day to day stress. Dealing with irrate callers is just draining. I work for an IT comp. and we do have the odd hours but the comp. does encourage us to have another outlet like we play poker sometimes, or yoga or we have art exhibits. Also i think it adds to the stress if you're not happy with your job man sad...

usually what I tell my trainees is that they should have a positive outlook and disposition. If they let work affect them then they won't survive. If they keep everything in the positive then they'll go places...
