    The Office of the President, seat and fount of power in the land, requires piles of money to maintain.

    Keeping house for MalacaƱang under President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo cost taxpayers a cool P2.36 billion in 2006, according to reports of the Commission on Audit.

    The annual housekeeping tab for the Palace on average amounted to P196 million a month, or P6.5 million a day, or P273,148 every hour.

    But basic housekeeping expenses – food, water, utilities, medicines, personnel services, etc. – are not the only bills that Filipinos have to shoulder to sustain the presidential household.

    hmmm...BUT it really is necessary, politicians/ law makers (the good ones, or the lesser evils) need a place where they could set their minds to focus on the things at hand, some people at malacanang deserve more than that amount bec. some have made the country a better place to live...


    but some dont even deserve a cent...

    it's hard to say if the amount is not justified...for sure there are many expenses apart from housekeeping...the report says, Malacanang isn't just an official residence of the president and the first family...there are also many offices and personnel there so u have to expect u need to pay also these people.

    the report seems a bit confusing or misleading coz for example: official trips, logistics, personnel used by the president to carry out her official functions are accounted or seemingly treated as part of the Malacanang or "housing" expenses when they are basically operational expenses (opex). it's probably difficult for a president not to spend billions to run the country's highest office.

    Why didn't they report how expensive it is to maintain a legislative office as well? -- if u look at the numbers, the legislative department is also a very expensive department...pork barrel, salaries, wages, official trips etc...yet only 5% of our legislators are productive...mas mga "shakoy nga way kamay" pa na sila.

    Is it possible for utilities companies to provide free electricity and water to government institutions like MalacaƱang? At least the government can make it a condition for such businesses to run in our country.. After all, Napocor is owned by the government right?

    Also, regarding domestic and international travel, pwede man cguro himuon free.. say part siya sa deal nga maka run si Lucio Tan sa iya business is to provide the government with free and unlimited domestic and international rides as long as official lang pod..

    ...same with food, telephone, internet connection, etc..etc..

    ^^ At least, the news stated there is transparency and accountability as there are documents such as disbursement records, receipts and the like to prove that the expenses of the office is not whimsical and imaginary. I'd rather that than not having accountability and transparency at all. Compared to the previous administration, GMA is not idly sitting waiting for the world to change.

    As for the utilities, I don't think those companies will provide it for free because for them, they will always be providing it for profit. I guess I can accept the report provided that the offices and employees in the executive branch do their jobs efficiently.

    Ug poorly maintained ang seat of power sa atong nasud ...naaah! unsa nalang ika sulti sa mga dignitaries nga moanha? Moingon na pud sila nga wala gimaintain kay gikurakot ang budget?

    But the gov't. could make it a condition for the businesses to continue to operate.. or for new businesses who want to operate..

    Diba naa man some sort of a franchise tax ang mga utilities? So tagaan sila ug discount ba ron, or tax holiday, provided that they give free services to the government (free water c/o Lopez, free electricity c/o NAPOCOR, free gasoline c/o Petron, free food c/o SanMiguel, free airfare c/o LucioTan, free telephone bills c/o Cojuangco, etc..)..
