michelle de leon of the philippines takes her place.
apparently, it was against the rules to join other beauty contests during ones reign.

the 1st ever Ms. Universe was from JAPAN...

The very first Ms. Universe didn't come from Japan. The first Miss (1952) Universe was from Finland. I think the first time Japan won the Miss Universe crown was in 1959.
