DEATH

On October 29, 2007, while travelling to a show in Gomel, Belarus, Decapitated was involved in a bus accident. Their tour bus collided with a truck carrying wood, giving serious head injuries to Vitek and Adrian Kowanek. This is believed to be the driver's fault, although this is not known.

The two were taken to a hospital in Novozybkov, Russia. While his family released a statement on November 1, 2007 saying that Kowanek's condition had improved, Vitek went under trepanation, a form of head surgery in which a hole is drilled into the skull, and was due to be transported to a hospital in Krakow, Poland for further treatment. However, Vitek died on November 2, 2007 at the age of 23. [1]

Upon hearing this, Soilwork drummer Dirk Verbeuren commented: "I'm truly devastated about this untimely passing. Vitek was without a doubt one of the most talented and hard-working extreme metal drummers around. He was a great inspiration to me, a mind-blowing force behind the kit. To die at such a young age and in such dramatic circumstances is just horrible. My deepest condolences to his wife and child, his family and friends, and to the band. Vitek will be sorely missed. R.I.P. Vitek." [2]
