Default Biostar's TPower X79 smiles for the camera

Biostar's TPower X79 smiles for the camera by VR-Zone.com

There seems to be no end to the X79 motherboards that are being shown off ahead of the official launch which is now less than two weeks away and pictures of Biostar's upcoming X79 board which will be called the TPower X79 has now made their way online. We don't have tons of details on this board and have to simply go with what we can deduct from the pictures, so sadly this won't be the most detailed look at the board.

First impression of the TPower X79 is a messy board with a somewhat peculiar board layout. There are a pair of red x16 PCI Express slots as well as a white one, although we're not sure if the white slot is somewhat different or not. The markings on the board read PCI Express 2.0, rather than 3.0 which is also somewhat strange. There's also a pair of x1 PCI Express slots and a single PCI slot and we can't say that we're sold on Biostar's slot layout in this case.

The six white SATA ports are presumably connected to the X79 chipset, although there's no simple way of telling which two ports are SATA 6Gbps. There's also a seventh SATA port in red just next to the main block of ports. Biostar has gone overboard when it comes to power delivery with a pair of 8-pin 12V power connectors as well as a Molex connector, something overclockers might find useful though. They've also put a small shield over the audio codec, but there's no special components hiding underneath the shield as seen on a different picture at the source.

The rear I/O consist of a PS/2 port, two USB 2.0 ports, no less than six USB 3.0 ports, an eSATA port, a Gigabit Ethernet port and 7.1-channel audio with optical and coaxial S/PDIF out. The board also has a pin header for a pair of front USB 3.0 ports and power, reset and clear CMOS buttons as well as a POST80 debug LED display. We don't know what USB 3.0 controllers Biostar is using on this board, but we'd guess it's ASMedia as it looks like there's a chip for each pair of USB 3.0 pots. Not a bad show, but not our first choice either.

Sali!
