Possible opponents are Juan Manuel Marquez, who is mandated by the WBC to fight Pacquiao, Rocky Juarez, and the winner of the fight between the undefeated Joan Guzman and Humberto Soto. If Pacquiao will move up to the lightweight division, current WBC lightweight division champion David Diaz is also a potential opponent.

Guzman and Soto's fight is for the WBO super featherweight belt while Marquez is out to defend his WBC super featherweight title against Juarez.

Rocky Juarez has felt he was neglected after fans were chanting "Pacquiao vs Marquez" during Pacquiao's fight against Barrera. According to Juarez, Marquez has yet to pass on him first if ever he's going to fight Pacquiao again, and at the same time, felt uncomfortable after feeling neglected for being Pacquiao's next possible opponent. Juarez is eager to show everybody that he's capable of fighting Pacquiao.

Meanwhile, Freddie Roach said that he wants Pacquiao to start his training camp 2 months before the fight, but as of now, it's still uncertain as to where Pacquiao would train. But according to Roach, if Pacquiao decides to train once again in Cebu, they'll stay for only a month and return to the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles for the remaining 4 weeks.
