So expect an uptick on BSP's next foreign debt report. Philippine Foreign Debt Tracker web app will also update accordingly.

The latest numbers from BSP just came in and as of last quarter of 2017 (or that's as of the end of December 2017), Philippine Foreign Debt is now at:
    $73 Billion
    US$73,098,000,000

It is slightly up from the previous quarter, but it is down by 2.23% from the previous year.

I am expecting this number to significantly go up for the rest of 2018 with more loans to be inked to fund the current administration's ambitious Build3x projects.

More details on the micro web app we built to track our country's foreign debt:

hehe. di lang nako i-apil ang president bro.
this micro web app is intended only to update the movement of our country's foreign debt.
basin magkagubot kung ako pang ibutang kinsa ang president. hehe.

i am also just using the BSP data, so limited ang app kung unsa nga year ra ang available.
kung pwede unta, sugod ni Aguinaldo, but we can't do that. haha!

The better number to look at is Debt-to-GDP ratio, which at this time is 41.7% (down from a high of 54.7% in 2008 ). Compare that with Japan's ratio which is a ridiculous 200%, I think we're alright.

We should fix our trade deficit before we think of paying our debts.

fun fact. if the current population of our country is 106,512,074
    that means...
    US$73,098,000,000 / 106,512,074 = $686.29 per person
Or that's approximately P36,000 ang utang kada Pinoy mapa pobre man o datu, bata man o tiguwang, naay trabaho man o wala. hehe.

We have the latest data from BSP as of 5.24.2018

Debt-to-GDP ratio rises to 56.2% in Q1. This was higher than the debt-to-GDP ratio in the same period last year, which was recorded at 55.2 percent.
