MYOMA
Myoma or Fibroids are abnormal growths that develop in or on a woman’s uterus. Sometimes, these tumors become quite large and cause severe abdominal pain and heavy periods. In other cases, they cause no signs or symptoms at all. The growths are typically benign (noncancerous). The cause of fibroids is unknown.

A new meta-analysis highlights the importance of magnesium for normal blood pressure, especially in individuals with insulin resistance, prediabetes or non-communicable chronic diseases.

In a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers pooled the effect of magnesium supplementation on blood pressure in participants with preclinical or non-communicable diseases.

The meta-analysis included 11 randomized controlled trials and 543 subjects, with follow-up periods ranging from 1 to 6 months. The average dosage of magnesium used in the trials ranged from 365 to 450 mg/day. The studies reported blood pressure at the beginning and end of the trials.

The groups supplementing with magnesium had significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, at 4.18 mm Hg and 2.27 mm Hg respectively.

The results of this analysis suggest that magnesium supplementation significantly lowers blood pressure in individuals with insulin resistance, prediabetes, or other noncommunicable chronic diseases.

Magnesium is a cofactor in more than 300 enzyme systems that regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. Magnesium is required for energy production, oxidative phosphorylation, and glycolysis. It contributes to the structural development of bone and is required for the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and the antioxidant glutathione. Magnesium also plays a role in the active transport of calcium and potassium ions across cell membranes, a process that is important to nerve impulse conduction, muscle contraction, and normal heart rhythm.
