Loot wants a drug-free town Monday,
September 04, 2017 DAANBANTAYAN
Mayor Vicente Loot, who was tagged by President Rodrigo Duterte as a drug protector, joined the unity walk against illegal drugs held in his town last Sunday afternoon. Senior Insp. Irish Dilem, town police chief, said Loot is supportive of the police’s anti-illegal drug campaign. “He wants Daanbantayan to be declared as drug-cleared. During his speech yesterday, he announced a self-imposed timeline, which is by the end of this year, to have the oversight committee, chaired by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, declare Daanbantayan as drug cleared,” she said. Dilem said 300 persons, including 50 drug surrenders, joined the unity walk, which they will hold every Sunday this month. Last July, Loot was present during the conferment of the drug-free status on Barangays Carnaza, Calape, Dalingding, Tinubdan, Tominjao and Logon. The declaration was made by the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council based on the recommendations of the villages’ Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils. In 2016, Duterte named Loot as one of the illegal drug protectors, along with other police officials. No charges have been filed against Loot, who has denied the allegations against him. (KAL)
