i think there are also some biometric scanners that carry their own storage system. they are basically thin clients, i think. to access the files, you just access the device and read the data from a simple text file database. i encountered one of these at work a few years ago. i've forgotten what it was but it is definitely worth looking at. no more worries about having to integrate with the biometrics firmware.
buy digital persona. i think they are the cheapest brand here in cebu. i bought several fp scanner for my projects.
your next problem is where to get the sdk? you need to have the sdk to develop fp apps. use google. look for fingerprint scanner sdk...
harryperales suggestion is good. another approach i tried and used was to assign each employee id number as a filename for their fp template. it worked.

dali ra na imo problema. Register imo fingerprint sa biometric then add imo name or employees name with its corresponding fingerprint. Once the user log-in-logout, your biometric machine will store the info either in local machine itself or go directly to the computer application provided by the machine.
All you have to do is to retrieve all the data stored by your biometric in .csv, .xls, or .pdf format. Insert it in your RDBMS.
