It's different in our field. We don't proceed to higher education mainly because of promotion or for qualifications. It depends on your own reason. What if mag-Masters just for self-fulfillment?

Self fulfillment over self destruction with your peers...

Don't only listen to my personal advice. Learn from other experienced professionals.... Maestra man kaha ka? Ma suyaan / dumtan ka sa imong mga co-teachers, labi na if naa kay kauban nga mas senior pa nimo pero wala pay masters...

Think about it... Ikaw naay masters with little experience... Siya kay no masters pero with years of experience... Not to mention mga connection / backers sa DepEd... Tumoy ra jud ka sa ballpen if ma suyaan ka.

Maayong laki lage ka sa academe (that's why ganahan kaayo ka mag masters), pero dapat pa nimo ma experience and world of politics, psychology and diplomacy.

Just because people think differently from you doesn't mean you are right. Ngano, did I say mag-Masters ko without experience? Din't you hear that Masteral Classes are done during weekends?

And, FYI, got no plans of applying in DepEd. Stop acting like you know everyone's heads and plans. Just stop.

I THINK having a master's degree has its advantages (having an edge among others, advancing your skills, being recognized, etc.) AND disadvantages (your co-workers or even boss may feel threatened, it may not be required/used in your work at all, etc.).

People have insecurities mao nang tinuod jud nang naay masuyaan. It's human nature but if naay buhaton imong mga co-workers/boss nimo from this, then they must be very unprofessional which says a lot about their company. I'd do research first about a company if mu fit ba ko sa ilang work environment. I don't think all companies have the same standing when it comes to having a master's degree.

Ang hypothetical situation nga gipasabot ni Scott kay fresh gradute with no experience. For him, experience first before a master's degree, which I agree. Pero it depends on many other factors whether you should get that degree or not especially if imong i take into account imong peers. It can make or break you. It all depends on what you think is the best action to take.

Kang elle kay while you're working and gaining experience, why not take a master's degree for your own reasons during weekends, which I also agree. But doing so will PROBABLY cost you your weekend (goodbye #squadgoals), money and unsa pa na diha. Pero depende ra na sa imong management of time and resources. I'll do this in a work environment where my peers also value academic excellence and will not undermine me out of jelousy or whatever their reasons are.

So you both have your own points which I also consider right. It probably just depends on the situation and many other factors.

Wa ko kabalo nga every weekends diay ang masters... duh...

Don't be an idiot... My point is applicable even in call centers, hospitals, law enforcement... even in business. Fresh grad pa gani ka swetix na kaayo ka. It just show your personality pohon if mag trabaho naka. Di man gani ka maminaw sa mga advice sa mga elders / seniors nimo diri sa forum.

Most reputable universities dili ka dawaton if mag masters ka pero wala paka relevant experience ug 1-2 years kay matod pa sa dean, "needs maturity" pa daw. Mao man unta na. Pero kay due to financial reasons, modawat nalang ang school.

Pero... like I said earlier. It is between choosing self-fulfillment and self-destruction.

Fresh Grad feels

It's normal for a fresh grad to feel anxious when he/she hasn't found a job for months after graduation.
In the real world, companies would compare who is a better candidate they would hire for the job and
the resume speaks in volumes - school, course, extra curricular activities (a test of what skills he/she has
to boot), seminars attended (professional growth) and if you belong to the top of the class.

SCENARIO 1 - GETTING A JOB FIRST
So taking masters would be good but it's better to have a job first like the BPO since it's an easy way to land
a job that way you'll be able to have extra cash while waiting or reviewing for your LET. Or you can have tutorial
sessions - Math tutors are so hard to find nowadays. Taking post grad studies btw is expensive IF you opt for a
good institution.

SCENARIO 2 - TAKING POST GRAD STUDIES
Once you have saved enough and you passed the board, that's the time you try teaching. Having a Master's
degree (or even units) can give you an edge because education is a competitive vocation, schools would always
go for something extra. To sell yourself to the HR (with no teaching background and masters), you let them
know that you'll be enrolling yourself in post grad (it should be in line with your BS degree as per Dep Ed
instructions)

There are schools who would offer school grants if you express your plan to take up Masters (so maka-save pa ka).
Companies would give additional compensation if you have Master's units or more a degree. And for Masters classes,
it depends on the availability of the professors who handle weekdays or weekend classes. There also some who don't hold summer classes.

Btw, if you're a LET passer, send your resumes on December or January because that's
the time, teachers will undergo an evaluation and at the same time will express their
intent whether they're staying or not. So it's the time of the school year, school heads
start looking for teachers -- March is quite late if you want to get ahead
