After San Juan bust, soldiers warned vs. weapons, ammo pilferage

    Published September 27, 2016 5:21pm

The military leadership on Tuesday warned soldiers against pilfering and selling weapons and ammunition to civilians and enemies of state after an arms trafficking syndicate was busted by authorities in San Juan City.
The warning was issued after it was discovered that some of the weapons and ammunition the group was supplying to its clients, which reportedly included the Abu Sayyaf, were government-issued with "government arsenal" markings.
"We are not going to take this lightly. The Armed Forces is very keen, very seriously looking into this because this is no small offense," Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs office chief Col. Edgard Arevalotold said.

The pilfering and selling of weapons and ammunition to outside forces are punishable by dishonorable discharge in the military. Soldiers caught pilfering and selling firearms and ammunition can be tried by a general court martial.
"This is a serious offense under the law or under our Articles of War. This is also a huge offense to our fellow soldiers, where firearms and ammunition are possibly sold to civilians and to our enemies," Arevalo said.
Arevalo said it is possible that the suspects arrested in San Juan were indeed selling weapons and ammunition that were pilfered by "misfits" in the military, noting that two soldiers were arrested last week in Basilan and Compostela Valley for ammunition pilferage.
"This only goes to show that indeed there are some misfits in the military service who we are not going to allow to grow in number," Arevalo said. "We are taking action to stop this wrongdoing, a huge offense in the Armed Forces in the Philippines." —KBK, GMA News

Nag-huwat ra tingale na siya ug free armaments from the US.
mogukod gyud na ang US knowing how strategic we are in this region, although it's a dangerous game to play.
If Digong would cut ties with the US then I would be alarmed. I hope I am correct.
