    Something to think about...

Quoted from a highly respected service member...
Okay, so.. the UN Tribunal said that we legally own Panatag Shoal and that China's Nine Dash Line is pure hogwash. But before all the self congratulations and rejoicing, let us think about this for a moment:

The UN Court may have made its decision but they don't have the capability nor the intention to impose that decision. Especially when one of the party in that arbitration is a member of the UN Security Council (yes China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council that votes on use and employment of UN forces). That means, these rocks and waters may be ours, but we have to defend it ourselves.

Now, do we have the balls to defend what is legally ours? Or, we as a people, still expect the Kano to do the fighting and the bleeding for us? We are even hesitant to spend money to buy the tools to get the capability to fight for ourselves. We choose to ignore buying the necessary weapons that will allow us to fight on our own, kasi mahal daw at mas marami pang kaylangan unahin na pang pro-poor programs. Constructing basketball courts and waiting sheds were deemed more important than building the capacity to defend what is ours... secure in the belief that other people, especially the Kano, will fight and bleed for these rocks and waters.

If I am the ordinary Kano soldier or sailor or airman, I would be asking myself this: why would I risk my life and limb on some pieces of rocks in some far distant part of the planet when the people who supposedly owns it does not even want to spend their own money to defend it? Heck, if I am the Kano, I will side with the Vietnamese who have shown much more bigger balls than the Pinoys, in their collective shortsightedness, have displayed through all this melodrama.

I don't agree with what that member is saying though.

The kano or ordinary kano sailor or soldier would not bleed for those rocks and waters, but the entire US country has taken it upon themselves by citing "freedom of navigation". Yes, you can't rely on the UN to give special orders to drive these squatters aways. But UN can influence or pressure them out citing adherence to UNCLOS a piece of agreement and made an international law that China themselves have signed and ratified.

So with the buying of the necessary weapons. Did he even realize that even if we spend our entire GDP to weapons, it will only equal to the one years worth of China's military budget?

And citing basketball courts, and things like these is just trying to add credence to his claim, but somehow this is irrelevant.

Ranting such things are immaterial and the worst thing that everyone would do now is to think of war, in war there are no winners. Look at those Middle East countries going into war? What do they got?

No water, no electricity, scarcity in food, no internet no facebook? Unsaon nalang.

The best thing to do now is to talk.

with the deicision, what do you think will be the first action of the government?we cant drive them out by force and if we'll go into bilateral talks what should be the agreement for both parties to have a win win soln?

or perhaps we'll just let the Pres ride the jetski and plant the Phil flag in one of the islands?

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion.

The Kano is doing those FONOps to cite that the area is under dispute and an arbitration case is being filed then. That was the least they can do to support us. As stated, the tribunal has no enforcing powers to make China comply with the ruling. It just gave the Philippines legal rights to said claims. The UN to pressure China? China sits as a permanent member of the security council, good luck with that. Now, it seems that many are asking the Kano for help in removing the squatters, If I were the Kano, why would I help somebody who is not even helping themselves?

I am not saying that we go to war with China, the point is that we should build up our capabilities enough to make the other side think that waging war towards us will be also costly to them. That is minimum credible defense. Spend our entire GDP? If Indonesia could maintain theirs, why could we not? Our economy is doing better than theirs.

Immaterial? And yet you are asking those people to fight and die for this country... For the people in the service, war is the last thing that they will ever think of. For they truly know the horrors of it. Comparing the Middle East to our situation is like comparing apples to oranges.

Talking is what we have been doing ever since. Even during the Scarborough stand off where both sides agreed to pull out, and look who didn't? Then we filed the case in the Tribunal, is that not talking?

If we are not willing to stand and protect what is ours, do you still expect others will?

Yes unsaon na lang jud kung no water, no electricity, scarcity of food, no internet no Facebook... Better to kowtow to your new overlords...

South China Sea: China may establish air defense zone after losing court ruling

China said Wednesday it has the right to set up an air defense zone in the hotly disputed South China Sea, a day after a landmark court ruling against Beijing's claims in the contested waters.

Liu Zhenmin, China's vice foreign minister, told a press conference in Beijing that China's sovereignty over the bulk of the South China Sea wouldn't be affected by a decision by the International Court for Arbitration, which went overwhelmingly in favor of the Philippines.
Liu said imposing an air defense identification zone (ADIZ) in the region, which would require aircraft flying over the waters to first notify China, would depend on the threat level China faced.
"If our security is threatened, we of course have the right to set it up," Liu said.
China set up an ADIZ over the East China Sea in 2013, prompting an outcry from Japan and the United States, but the zone has not been fully enforced.

    'Scrap paper'

This is the first time an international court has ruled on region's mess of competing claims and Tuesday's decision could ratchet up friction in the region, where $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes through annually.
Liu said that China hoped the Philippine government would see the ruling as "a piece of scrap paper" and called for bilateral negotiations to resume over the issue.
The court concluded that China's historical claims to the sea weren't legally valid. It also said China had breached the Philippines' sovereign rights by endangering its ships, damaging the marine environment and building on islands and reefs.
Beijing's ambassador to the United States said on Tuesday the ruling would "intensify conflict and even confrontation."
It was welcomed by the Philippines, the United States and other countries in the region, which called on China to abide by the decision.

By the time mahuman na ug reclaim sa china ang WPS, obvious thing to do is build defense structures, which WILL happen. From there, samot ka intense ang lugar. Ang china kay mag himo ra ba ug air defense after ni gawas ang cout ruling. Unsaon man lang na? You still think war is not possible?
