Notice how there are no transitions in THE VILLAGE. Just simple straight cuts, if n0t sound and dialogue bridges to give the smooth flow from scene to scene. I like that kind of discipline in the way Manoj cut the said film, to think he was using an NLE.
He must have mastered the way he controls the RHYTHMIC RELATIONSHIP between each scene because if someone is inept in this dimension of editing, you can get away with it by using transitions... especially when you're editing on NLE.
Now that I know Shyamalan can do Rhythmic and Temporal Editing (the somewhat chronological displacement at the end of THE VILLAGE), I want to see him do some graphic match, graphic editing is also one of the 4 or 5 dimensions of motion picture editing.
Wouldn't it be nice to see some graphic match editing see some of that in LADY IN THE WATER.
