Don't worry, eventually information about the premise and plot of the story will come out... it's spoilers about the ending you have to avoid.

There were so many red herrings that Shyamalan used in THE VILLAGE trailers and ads... they were that way because the plot reveals start peeling off when the movie clocks 1: 06: 00 even before Act 2 ends.
this is eventually gonna flop since people will almost immediately pry for the "surprise twist" even before the set-up. they lose track of everything good about the movie because their minds are preoccupied on guessing the spectacular twist. the price shyamalan pays for including "mind-numbing" twists in almost all his scripts.
one thing he could do here is just to write and direct it the usual way, without the need for shock value as the brass ring.
Yes, but his last movie wasn't about the twist., although it had a lot of red herrings. Where have you seen a movie where the twist starts to come off even before ACT 2 ends?
His last film was his commentary on society today post September 11.
His next film won't be about the twist either, if there is a twist...
And actually, he doesn't force a twist. When Manoj writes he immediately withholds information. And the surprise twist in 2002 was that SIGNS didn't have one.
i was referring to the audience. they anticipate twists even b4 act 1, because of shyamalans reputation, and that cant be good for any movie.
i don't think anticipating twists take that much effort.Originally Posted by r/brey

i'm not saying it takes effort. im saying it takes away the prime reason of going to a movie, to have fun with every scene the director puts in it. im saying when i go to a movie, i dont have to expect something, thats why i stay out of spoilers and critic reviews as much as possible before seeing a movie. when you expect something, it takes away the spontaneity of it all.
That's the problem with some people who pay to see a movie by Manoj...
They tend to be pendantics, I don't know whom they want to impress by being overly critical of what twist or how or when the twist came; they fail to see the ideals and the beautiful morales that Night injects so much into his stories...
I knew or had an idea of the ending of THE VILLAGE, but I had no idea how much it would tie into what the story was really about - trauma, and we can never really run from heartache because it's a part of life. And his movies are really about wrapping their beauty into your mind.
the main point of going into the movies is to forget for a considerable amount of time that you exist (together with it your angst, frustrations, fears, despair, etc) and take on somebody else's life and experiences...
to loose yourself in the story and characters in the movie...
Exactly, but some who go into Manoj's films just love to guess the twist and scrutinize how poorly he executed it... in fact THE VILLAGE was perfect in it's revelations the way the truth starts to peel off layer by layer.... just like the expositions in CASABLANCA... those good movies all lead to the inevitable end and character arcs we find in those endings.
"He has gave us a reason to continue this place... if that is something we still wish for."
"Some day you'll realize that the problems of 3 little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world."
