update: 45 dead, 1 missing.

Ten more bodies were recovered from a ferry that capsized on Thursday in choppy waters in the central Philippines, bringing the final death toll in the accident to 45, the coast guard said.
As of 4 p.m. Friday, 142 people from the M/B Kim Nirvana were rescued by fishing boats and coast guard personnel or swam to safety off Ormoc City on Leyte Island on Thursday, said Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Armand Balilo.


Balilo said two passengers initially listed in the manifest did not board the ferry, lowering the total number of people on board to 187 from 189 earlier reported by the coast guard.

opinion lang,, this was due to unsecured cargo that shifts to the other side resulting to loss of stability when a reasonable strength of wave hit one side of the boat during manoeuvering...and so as they say, Human Error.
