vern is right, and I believe the reason why we have very big malls because of accessibility reasons too. Since most people commute it's wisest to have malls that sell everything in one place. Here in the States, people drive. Dili praktikal sa atoa kung daghang small shops kay ang mga taw mas adto man gyud sa mas dali and accessible ra nila. Kaysa kapila pa sakyon. That's why atong mga malls sa Pinas mga dagku kaau.

does having 3 out of the 10 largest malls of asia a sign of progress? we don't even know if consumption for goods actually increased as a result of these malls, or if the "mall phenomena" were the product of an increase in demand for goods, among other factors.

best of all, we haven't even looked up on what slice of the social pie frequent these malls, or if they actually buy anything when they get inside. unlike most of the forum members here, the majority of the people living within the vicinity of malls aren't actually middle class and above; the only classes that can afford to go to the malls and buy something from it.
