The real concern here is not about the people's daily activities and their preferences. It's the number of options people are left with.



In the US and other foreign countries, even third world countries like Mexico, poor families have access to 12-500 channels, because cable is cheap. Monopolies from Media Corporations are restricted by the Government.

Here, we get 2-5 channels. And the two media giants are like Mob bosses. They control everything from politicians to vote, local films to be released down to the lifestyle Filipino kids will copy. That's the difference.

The replies are still within topic. This is like a cookbook given to a kid and he'll learn a lot about dishes. But give an Encyclopedia set from A-Z, he'll learn more than dishes.

An average Filipino spends hundreds of hours watching television per year. And the poor have the right to multiple channel options. The government will need to subsidize some cable fees or the NTC to set an agreement with Cable companies. This way, poor families pay less on cable fees while kids learn more, instead of the crappy shows ABS-CBN and GMA are currently offering.

I don't think a 10 year old kid would hurry going home from school at 5pm rushing to watch remakes, copied shows like Pasion de Amor. They would rather watch how Volcanoes are formed, how planets are created, how lions hunt or how ants behave. Kids needs these documentaries, not stupid remakes from foreign dramas.

But again, they're left with no other option.

If the government wants a population with a higher intelligence capability, then subsidize public access to Educational Channels, scrap MMFF and encourage indie films. For more than 20 years, we keep seeing the same storyline on TV:

....A mother gives birth, then her child gets adopted. That kid grows up, falls in love with someone. Then meets her/his mother as an adult. Closing episodes will show some police, pinusilay dayun with matching hilak2x. The End.

Same old crap over and over.
