    just to ask all :
is your religion - is asking you to stop working and striving hard because they dont want you to become rich or billionaire?
are those colonizers until now - is preventing you and dictating you to stop what ever you do to become rich?

Although there are very poor former british colonies, we cannot deny that former british colonies are generally doing better than former spanish and portuguese colonies.
I think the main reason is that spanish and portuguese colonies in central and south america were designed to be sources of agricultural products. Thus plantations producing tobacco, sugar, coffee, cotton acted a very important part in their economy. These products had been in high demand constantly from 1600s to 1900s. Thus they were quite reluctant to industrialize since agriculture was making the people in power very rich.
The second reason is the sharp rich poor divide and low education of the general population since slaves from Africa took up a large percentage of their population. 90% of the slaves shipped from africa arrived in Latin america while the remaining 10% reached modern day US and canada.
Sharp rich poor divide and fluctuating prices of agricultural products made their politics very unstable which made industrialization even more difficult.

Spanish colonies were exploitation colonies. It means that everything that was there was made to export primary resources to Spain. They also had colonial pacts, that limited the commerce of the colonies to Spain only. When that colonies became independent, there was nothing to incentivate growth. Those that did not fall into a civil war just continued exporting primary resources to some rich country. That resulted in the Latin America we have today. Now, England had settlement colonies, to where they sent people they didn't like (prisoners to Australia and Puritans to the EUA, for example). These colonies were not explored, and were free to thrive and grow on their own. Just remember that England also had exploitation colonies, many of them are even worst than the Spanish ones.
