Rep Blumenauer Questions Michael Botticelli | Video | C-SPAN.org

Rep. Blumenauer deciminated Obamas Deputy Drug Czar who kept on stalling with his answers. If an objective question is asked, and a subjective emotional response is given, that is a telltale sign of no credibility of response.

yes, alcohol too, dependency rate of 37%. it is by far the most abused intoxicant and yes it is legal. but people perceive it as ordinary and leave it upto personal discipline, why not cannabis? can doctors recommend alcohol as a treatment?

    off topic:
the reasoning given has crossed the boundary of stupidity. there are only a few people in istorya.net who can maintain a decent discussion inspite of having opposing views, this guy slabs is not one of them. and rather argue on the issue, they would quickly pounce on anything trivial so that they may be able to express in whatever way possible inspite of being irrational. they throw adhominems, logical fallacies, and inappropriate emoticons to do the argument for them, a hallmark of intellectual laziness or worst diminshed intellectual capacity.

cannabis, a personal take part 1

the benefits of cannabis is profound, if the coconut is considered a tree of life, cannabis is the plant of life. cannabis and man are historically intwined, and man would never have progressed so much without cannabis. as outrageous as this may seem, but cannabis is responsible for many instruments necessary for discovery and exploration in the past. sails of the conquestadors were made of cannabis, the ropes and clothes were from the same fiber. medicinal preparations were extracted from cannabis to treat stomachache, pain, malaria, insomnia, and other illnesses. canvas which record historical paintings, came from the word cannabis. cannabis was so important than thomas jefferson, founding father of american independence, said that cannabis production was a priority industry in building wealth for a nation. and that is true upto this present.

it is a trillion dollar product, as it affects multiple sectors. and some suspect, it is because of this numerous potential, that established entities will suffer from the widespread use of cannabis. i will detail a list of possible products we can benefit from cannabis.

    part 1. cannabis stalk

    why was cannabis prohibited?

it is interesting to note that in 1937, the legislation and resource persons never used the term cannabis, but marijuana. people never heard marijuana at that time, but they all know whats cannabis because it was present in their everyday lives. another interesting note is that one of the anti marijuana advocates, Harry Hanslinger, used racial flavor in describing the effects pf marijuana.

" there are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in united states, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others." - Harry J. Anslinger, "testimony to US Congress supporting Marihuana Tax Act, 1937"

His testimony was the basis for which Marijuana was made illegal. people supported it and the majority later found out that marijuana was cannabis. but many still used it inspite of the new legislation. this forced the government, upon the aggitation of William Hearst and Du Pont, to launch a propaganda against cannabis. two movies were produced, reefer madness and devils weed. these two movies became the bible of anti pot group, which medical science have recently proved as comical, unrealistic, and overly exaggerated. the theme and supposed effects of cannabis as portrayed in the two movies became the instrument through which most of us learned about marijuana.

Lets discuss William Hearst and Du Pont. Cannabis fiber is superior, thats a fact. but prior to 1930s, its toughness limited its mass production. the discovery of cotton gin in mid1800s made cotton the fiber of choice due to its potential of mass production. but in early 1930s, the decorticator was invented, allowing cannabis to be mass processed into fibers, much like the cotton gin. William Hearts owned a newspaper company and invested millions in timber production. He realized his businesses were in danger of being extinct because of the potential of cannabis. Popular Mechanics, a magazine in that time, hailed cannabis as the next billion product. William Hearts focused his resources in tainting the image of cannabis. he contributed to fictitious articles about the negative effects, which translated into the movie reefer madness. Du Pont chemical had just invented a faster way of processing paper from timber at that time, and they had spent much of their capital in doing so. They too were in danger pf becoming extinct as they were financially strapped in researching and inventing a new machine to process paper from other spurces. the two were believed to have conspired with the Secretary pf Finance at that time, and together with Anslinger, lobbied for the passaged of the Marihuana Tax Act.

many in the medical field then refuted the so called "savage" effects of cannabis. in fact several studies conducted from 1937 to 1976 all concluded no harmful effects, rather cannabis has beneficial or neutral effects in different parts of the body. A government sponsored study of cannabis in 1949 have concluded cannabis as a brain protectant and is beneficial for people with epilepsy, this was recently uncovered by Josh Stanley of Colorado who is a licensed cannabis grower specifically for medication. Josh was shocked that the US government already knew that cannabis can be used as a treatment. anyway, more on Josh later, in 1974 a governemnt sponsored research was done to find out spcifically the negative effects of cannabis. this was called Dr. Heath/Tulane study. the conclusion was, after subjecting a group of rhesus monkeys to cannabis smoking for 90 days, the monkeys brains atrophied and died due to brain damage. this was then publicized widely to be a propaganda against cannabis usage. However, this puzzled many in the scientific field and provoked many groups to demand the government to release how the methodology of the research was done. Playboy sued the government for 6 years before finally the methodology was released. This was how Dr. Heath did the research. He subjected the rhesus monkeys 30 joints a day, with a closed face mask, for ninety days, and when he monoeys died, cut open their brains, and counted how many dead brain cells there were, cut open a healthy monkey and counted the number of brain cells there are! the methodology was laughable if not intellectually dishonest. many doctors who reviewed the study concluded that any burnt material inhaled for extended periods of time would result to CARBON MONOXIDE poisoning, which would atrophy any brain. besides, heavy pot head smoker will only smoke 7-10 joints a day ( chain smokers can smoke 20-100 sticks a day). the revelation should have reversed the legislation pertaining to cannabis.

during the nixon administration, Richard Nixon declared a total war on drugs. this was prohibition nightmare all over again.

a short back story on prohibition in 1919. the first ever prohibition in usa was alcohol. it was and is an intoxicant which cause people to commit undesirable and even criminal acts. the goal of the prohibition was to stop violence associated with the consumption of alcohol. so many legitimate businesses were closed, it was illegal for them to continue. however, people still demand alcohol despite the prohibition. this gave rise to organized crime, people who have no respect for the law on the getgo, who found it profitable to sell alcohol. inspite of the prohibition, alcohol was ever present even at high costs. the prohibition made alcohol more valuable. Al capone was the face of organized crime. this continued for 13 years, and violence kept on increasing, far more than when alcphol was legal. in 1933, the great depression hit usa thus ended the prohibition to bring in the tax dollars from the alcohol industry. organized crime surrounding alcohol vanished from then on, and crimes related to alcohol diminished.

the federal government gave itself power to overrule state laws pertaining to drugs. even if states allow cannabis usage, federal agents can still prosecute people under federal courts. another very important thing happened during the war on drugs which damned cannabis to this day, it became scheduled 1, meaning it is classified the same as heroin and meth which dont have any medical use at all. this was a huge blow to cannabis, the noble plant was undeservingly vilified out of proportion. cannabis had been used for medication since 4000bc in china. how about the 1949 government sponsored study? it seems that the us government became selective in the data they wish to believe. its called bias.

fast forward to 2008. this is the year i think the resurgence of the beneficial effects of cannabis became mainstream. i would attribute it to Former Texas Congressman Dr. Ron Paul, who defended cannabis when he ran for presidency. despite of the ridicule, he brought common sense on the discussion of drugs, cannabis in particular. unlike many politicians, dr. paul investigates studies deeply before concluding. and it is because of his methodological explanation, that i researched about cannabis. i have to read studies counter to the education i got of being a nurse regarding cannabis. i never knew cannabis to have positive effects. doctors and my clinical instructors never discussed pertating to the potential treatment of cannabis. i was humbled to know that what i knew before was wrong. and this acceptance opened my mind... and i am not alone. there are many who were once critics, and later became advocates. Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN made a firm position in 2009 to be against cannabis legalization. however, in 2013, he made a 180 degree change of heart and admitted his mistake of belieiving the propaganda and letting it get the best of his scientific mind. he recently made an indepth investigation on cannabis and realized the potential of cannabis as a treatment for many diseases.

one of his investigation would lead to Charlotte Figi. Charlotte, Charlie to her family, was a five year old who has Dravet Syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy. it started when Charlie was just 3 mos old. Her twin grew up normally, but Charlie slowly lost learned life skills, like talking, walking, and eating.. her parents exhausted all conventional medical treatment, sometimes resuscitating Charlie from Asystole, heart stops beating, from pharmaceutical drugs. several times when Charlie was admitted, her parents were told to ready funeral preparations. Charlie experienced 400 seizures a day since three mos old. she spent everyday as a vibrating vegetable more than being a kid. but medicine failed, and her doctors were left with nothing except to experiment with veterinary drugs used for dogs. this was unacceptable to Charlies parents. her father watched a youtube video of a boy with seizure being treated by cannabis, and for them this was worth exploring. the Figis were anti cannabis, as we all once were, but the desperation force them to be open minded. they sent a request to Josh Stanley to help them. josh was excited to help but upon learning that the patient was 5 yrs old, he was apprehensive. but after seeing the severity of the condition, human compassion prevailed. luckily for the Figis, Stanley was able to breed a highly medical cannabis, very low in THC and very high in CBD. he jockingly named it Hippies Disappointment because its a worthless recreational plant. Stanley prepared the cannabis in pediatric dosage and treated it to Charlie. the results were shockingly counterintuitive for the Figis. first day of cannabis treatment, zero seizures. second day, zero seizures. so was the third, fourth, and fifth day. Charlie is now six years old, able to talk, stand, and eat on her own. Charlie experiences 0-1 seizure a month, a farcry from the 400 seizures before. the treatement is documented, in fact Josh Stanley gave a TEDx talk about it as well as on Dr Gupta's CNN Weed Special. Josh renamed Hippies Disappointment to Charlottes Web.

Charlies case is not isolated. The same result is being replicated in many double blind studies, the benchmark of scientific medical research. yes, cannabis can be addictive, 9% dependency rate but that pales in comparison to caffeine 15%, and alcohol 37%. but cannabis has no physiological withdrawal syndrome. and zero deaths in the 10,000 years of human history since its first known use. whenever a report or study state cannabis causing harm, it would sound alarms to many medical people who have done the research just like the case of Gemma Ross in UK. the pathologist ruled that she died of cardiac arrest caused by cannabis use. many experts shook their heads in disbelief, because she only smoked half a joint. most probably, she already had a cardiac condition plus several factors that contributed to cardiac arrest like smoking, stress, alcohol and other prescribed medications. cannabis was just incidental.

most cannabis critics like to blow things out of proportion, magnifying even what is absent. you can check online Nancy Grace vs Nancy Grace, Nancy Grace is a host on a talk show in HLN network, and you can judge for yourself the irrationality of this critic employs in desperately defensing her stand against cannabis. on one video, nancy accused cannabis as the cause of one man murdering his wife then killing herself. when she confidently asks Dr. Drew, a tv personality as well, to back her position, she got owned big time. Dr. Drew said that the mans room was found to have empty prescribed medications, and most probably he suffere a withdrawal causing him to become amok, cannabis was just an incidental find. Nancy was in disbelief so she stated that post mortem blood analysis showed cannabinoids but not other drugs. Dr. Drew said that exactly prove his point that the man suffered withdrawal since the body was devoid of the substances he was addicted to. that was a big slap on the face. Nancy Grace exemplifies most people against cannabis, i was like that too before.

more and more people will be rethinking their position regarding cannabis as more and more high profiled people come out. cannabis will take its place not only in the medical field but in all other aspects of human life. science will vindicate the reputation of cannabis, and the stigma will fade. decent conversations will again take hold when it comes to cannabis instead of the outright ridicule for even just suggesting the matter. it is morally and intellectually lazy and unjust to have the imagined potential harm of a group of people who MIGHT abuse cannabis overshadow its necessity in bringing normalcy to millions of people with medical conditions. people might agree to have it as a last resort option, i would counter to have it available anytime. why suffer needlessly just to satisfy some other peoples paranoia?

its crazy how some people acknoweldge that cannabis does have medical uses but dismiss it because " duhhh, maybe people will abuse it...duhhh.." wtf!? Where do vaccines and immunizations come? from the causative agents of their respective doseases. do children suffer also the disease when being immunized? no. How about Anti venom? where did it come from? snakes. If your irrationality is taken seriously, then people receiving anti venom should also get the bad effects of the venom. why doesnt that happen? because we have the technology to alter harmful substances to useful ones. CANNABIS in its inherent state already has many medical uses. can we not develop a non psychoactive cannabis to appease paranoid prohibitionist? YES we can. There is a kind of cannabis called, Charlotte's Web, that is not psychoactive but still medically potent. Watch Dr. Sanjay Gupta's report on CNN.

    - - - Updated - - -

as more studies come out, prohibitionist are cornered into resorting hysteria, fear mongering, and close mindedness to avoid admitting they are wrong. You retards should let go of your egos and see the truth, millions of lives are at stake. let us treat people with cannabis, and you can continue to ignore its medical use. dont like it? dont use it! why, if it is suddenly legal, would thhat by itself compel you to use cannabis?
