    Physical Effects
Marijuana comes from the hemp plant Cannabis sativa. It has an active ingredient called THC that makes you feel high. THC and other compounds in marijuana can also affect the way your body works.

Most people smoke the plant's dried leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds. But marijuana can also be mixed into food (like brownies, cookies, and lollipops), brewed as a tea, or inhaled with a vaporizer.

No matter how it gets into your system, it affects almost every organ in your body, and your nervous system and immune system, too. When you smoke pot, your body absorbs THC right away. (If you eat a baked good or another item, it may take much longer for your body to absorb THC, because it has to break down in your stomach before it enters your bloodstream). You may notice changes in your body right after you smoke. The effects usually stop after 3 or 4 hours.

Smoking pot can increase your heart rate by as much as two times for up to 3 hours. That’s why some people have a heart attack right after they use marijuana. It can increase bleeding, lower blood pressure, and affect your blood sugar, too.

We don’t yet know if marijuana is linked to higher odds of getting lung cancer. But the process does irritate your lungs -- which is why regular pot smokers are more likely to have an ongoing cough and to have lung-related health problems like chest colds and lung infections.

Other physical effects of marijuana include:

    Dizziness
    Shallow breathing
    Red eyes and dilated pupils
    Dry mouth
    Increased appetite
Slowed reaction time (If you drive after using marijuana, your risk of being in a car accident more than doubles.)

tobacco is cancerous. mj is not because of cannabidiol, it targets mutating cells and these cells commit apoptysis.

decreases pain more effective than morphine, relaxed sleep, decreases anxiety, increases appetite, helps regulate brain activity, destroys mutated cells, regulate hormones, eliminates nausea and vomiting. uses of cannabis have include MS, epilepsy, intractable seizures, chronic pain, hiv/aids, cancer (leukemia, breast, cervical, lung, liver, etc..) severe acne, bipolar and others. there are studies published in journal of american medicine that back up the use of mj in these diseases.

THC is the psychoactive substamce in mj. look what legalization has done to colorado, there are now species of cannabis that has negligible amounts of thc and high amounts of cbd, cannabidiol, which is the magical substance that gives all the benfits of pot.

I drilled down with medical subjects and pharmaceuticals for years, and I highly dispute this article. I never rely too much on articles written by bloggers. If you need more details about THC and how it is being "scaremongered" to heart attack cases, then read this medical book:

"Marijuana use and long-term mortality among survivors of acute myocardial infarction". American heart journal 165 (2)

dogs are mans bestfriend... but anthropologist would say cannabis is... wherever man went, cannabis follows. some theorized that the accidental consumption of pot by man in prehistoric times led to the brain evolution of man that seprated him from neanderthals...

cannabis indeed has some bad effects but that should not stop there. lets discuss its positive effects. for construction, hemp based blocks is good for sequestrating atmospheric co2 which would help in tempering climate change, reverse it even. hemp blocks gets stronger as time passes, outlasting conventional construction materials for ages.. more than a lifetime. hemp blocks doesnt need insulation because it is an insulator itself, just think of energy savings. and the good part of this story, we are just talking about the "waste product of cannabis", after all parts of the camnabis plant has been exploited.

so it is a legitimate reason to prohibit it because of possibility for abuse? everything can be abused. why not prohibit everything?

its just disheartening to witness "educated" people stopping on stage 1 thinking. how can we disregard its health impact, economic impact, and environmental impact? millions of acres of forest will be saved once cannabis becomes main stream. cannabis plant can be replenish wothin few weeks while trees in couple of years. we can build sturdier homes that can wothstand unforgiving weather at a fraction of costs of conventional materials.

another environmental impact is on energy. it can refined to biofuel with no pollution. henry ford has done it, more than 70 years ago. with our technology right now, we can maximize its energy potential. this will dwarf whatever biofuel program we have in this country, and this will lower the price of the pumps in gas stations. yet, alcohol remains to be legal, even advertised but cannabis becomes vilified. do you know why alcohol was relegalized? because its prohibition failed, it gave rise to to mafias. pots prohibition like wise gave rise to gangsters. why? because prohibition makes the product illegalized expensive, which attracts criminals.
